  • Tell City first at Corydon;...

    CORYDON—Emma Kohnert made 25 kills and Tell City got more spikes than usual from her teammates as it won a four-team volleyball tourney Saturday.
    The Marksmen beat North Harrison 28-30, 25-20, 25-22, West Washington 25-13, 25-14, and Corydon 26-24, 26-24.
    Kohnert made 11 kills, Mary Steen eight, and Brenee Leibering five against North Harrison.
    Leibering added four blocks. Natalie Peter had 23 assists and 16 digs and Cassie Bryant made 15 digs.
    Kohnert made seven kills and Steen four against West Washington.

  • Fast Boonville team will test...

    TELL CITY—Tell City will host Boonville, a fast team that likes to run the football, Friday at 7 p.m.
    Camden Cartwright, a 5-foot-9, 155-pound sophomore, is the 1-3 Pioneers’ top running back.
    “He’s pretty quick and he doesn’t try to dance—he just goes,” said Tell City Coach Ronnie Robinson.
    Chris Black, a 5-10, 165-pound senior, also runs the ball quite a bit.
    “Across the board, they are quick,” said Robinson.

  • PC will try to contain Braves’...

    LEOPOLD—Perry Central will face an up-and-down team with good size and speed when it hosts Tecumseh in football Friday at 7 p.m.
    The 2-2 Braves have averaged 51.0 points per game in their victories over 0-4 Wood Memorial and 1-3 Southside HomeSchool. But they have scored just one touchdown in each of their losses to 3-1 teams.
    “They’ve got some good size up front,” Perry Central Coach Greg Gibson said Monday. “They’ll be bigger than we are on the offensive line.”

  • Tell City wins Eagle Classic

    NASHVILLE—Tell City placed all five of its scorers in the top 20 percent of the 135-runner field to win the Class A Eagle Classic boys cross country meet Saturday.
    Tell City scored 68 points to beat runner-up North Harrison by 14. Perry Central was ninth with 221 in the 19-team field.
    Tell City placed third and Perry Central fifth in the 14-team girls race.
    Freshman twins Leo and Thomas Simpson led the Marksman boys, with Leo placing fourth in 16:11.13 and Thomas fifth in 16:35.57.

  • Tell City 1st, PC 3rd in Lincoln...

    TELL CITY—Perry Central’s Aaron Pierrard was the individual winner but Tell City had five of the top 10 finishers and seven of the top 15 as it won the nine-team Lincoln Trail Invitational boys cross country meet Tuesday.
    The Marksmen scored 33 points, 48 ahead of runner-up Evansville North. Perry Central was third with 93.
    Tell City finished fourth and Perry Central fifth among seven complete teams in the girls race.

  • Tell City shuts out Chargers

    TELL CITY—Only one match went three sets as Tell City beat Pike Central 5-0 in PAC boys tennis Thursday.
    Zach Fisher had to battle back from a first-set loss to beat Tanner McFarland 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 10-1 (super tiebreaker in lieu of a third set) in No. 2 singles.
    Jake Swihart beat Aaron Keepes 6-3, 6-1 in No. 1 singles and Luke Thomas beat Sam Stone 6-4, 6-3 in No. 3.
    Kevin Yeung and Jeff Yeung defeated Ty Smith and Jackson Keepes 6-2, 6-3 in No. 2 doubles.
    Jackson Ramsey and Chandler Lacy beat Drew Welch and Kaleb Edwards 6-0, 6-3 in No. 2.

  • Sprinkle, Commodores spike way...

    TELL CITY—Jordan Sprinkle made 14 kills and four blocks as Perry Central beat Tell City 25-18, 25-16, 22-25, 25-18 in volleyball Thursday.
    “We played a little bit better tonight so Grace (James) could set her up, and she was a little more aggressive tonight,” Perry Central Coach Becky Genet said of Sprinkle. “She has a lot of potential.
    “Madeline (Hubert) made a lot of all-around, really nice plays. And Brittany (Parker)’s placement was great on her hits.

  • Rams rout Commodores

    PAOLI—“Their line dominated on both sides. When you do that, it’s over with.”
    That was Perry Central Coach Greg Gibson’s summation of his team’s 49-6 PLAC football loss to Paoli Friday, and he wasn’t exaggerating.
    Perry Central quarterback Lane Lynch never had adequate time to pass and ended up just 1 for 5 for 5 yards.
    The Commodores also couldn’t get their running game going. They rushed for just 59 yards on 19 carries.

  • Tell City pounds Chargers

    TELL CITY—Tell City rushed for 405 yards to dominate Pike Central 48-21 in PAC football Friday.
    The Marksmen also passed for 93 yards as they compiled nearly 500 yards of total offense.
    Malcolm Lincoln scored their first touchdown on a 14-yard pass from Gant Miller on a post pattern.

  • Huebschmann 3rd in IWF Masters

    COPENHAGEN, Denmark – Tell City native Ray Huebschmann won the third-place bronze medal in his class at the 2014 International Weightlifting Federation Masters meet Sept. 1.
    This was Huebschmann’s highest finish in five starts in the IWF Masters.
