  • Thomas heading to regional

JASPER - Tell City senior Amber Thomas shot a 94 in the IHSAA girls golf sectional Saturday to qualify for the regional.

The top three teams in the nine-team sectional and the top three individuals not on those teams advanced.

Tell City finished fifth with 477 strokes. But Thomas placed sixth overall and second among individuals not on the top three teams.

"She hit the ball very well," said Tell City Coach Jim Meek. "Had she putted better, she had a real shot at winning it outright.

  • Southridge turns back Tell City

TELL CITY - Tell City split three-set doubles matches but Southridge won all three singles matches to beat the Marksmen 4-1 in PAC boys tennis Tuesday.

Andy Kast and Greg Hollinden beat Phil Buening and Tyler Messmer 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 in No. 1 doubles for Tell City's victory.

  • Tell City to host Southridge

TELL CITY - Tell City will host its fourth state-ranked opponent of the season when the Marksmen face Southridge in PAC football Friday at 6:30 p.m.

The 4-1 Raiders are ranked eighth in Class 2A in the Associated Press media poll and ninth in the coaches poll.

They have a fast running back in Brett Roesner, a 5-foot-10, 165-pound senior who frequently scores on long plays.

He ran 52 yards for a touchdown in last week's 28-6 win over South Spencer and made an 81-yard touchdown run in the Raiders' overtime loss to North Posey two weeks ago.

  • Inconsistent Trojans to take on...

OAKLAND CITY - Wood Memorial, which will host Perry Central Friday at 7 p.m., is a hard football team to evaluate this year.

For the most part the Trojans have beaten the teams they should and lost to the ones they should. They are 1-4 but have lost to three 5-0 teams after beating 0-5 Princeton.

However their 16-8 home loss to 1-4 Eastern Greene was somewhat unpredictable.

  • TC holds off Bulldogs

CANNELTON - Lauren Goffinet served 17 points and made 13 kills as Tell City beat Cannelton 25-12, 25-23, 25-5 in volleyball Tuesday.

Goffinet served the last nine points of the match - most of them unreturned. She finished with six ace serves.

Tell City jumped to leads of 6-0 and 14-4 in the second game but Cannelton came back to tie it 23-23.

Nakaa Myers served seven consecutive points to start that comeback and also served the tying point.

The Marksmen scored the final two points of that game, though, when Cannelton was unable to return their hits.

  • PC wins both titles in Tell City...

Perry Central also won the girls title, edging Heritage Hills 46-47. Tell City was fifth with 103 point.

Tell City's Tori Payne won the girls race in 13:18, 25 seconds ahead of runner-up Sarah Lindsey of South Spencer. But Perry Central had four of the next 10 finishers.

  • New book will interest TC fans

Ron Eaton has just written a book called "Local Legends: The Stories Behind the Headlines - 100 Years of Southwestern Indiana Sports History."

Tell City fans should be interested in the book, as it includes three sub-chapters about Tell City legends.

All three are in Chapter 5: 1958-1975. They are "The Lochmuellers: Father and Son Hall of Famers," "Gunner Wyman: He Did it His Way," and "Tom Kron: UK Blue Through and Through."

  • Braves outhit TC

LYNNVILLE - Laura Lochmueller made 17 kills and 11 blocks as Tecumseh beat Tell City 25-6, 25-14, 25-21 in PAC volleyball Thursday.

Hilarie Hahus made 12 digs and Dickerson made two blocks.

Boonville won the junior varsity match 25-17, 25-22. Olivia Schroeder made five kills and served three aces for Perry Central.

  • Commodores rush past Marksmen

LEOPOLD - Perry Central's offensive linemen opened some nice holes and the Commodore running backs hit them well Friday.

The Commodores rushed for 421 yards as they defeated Tell City 42-0.

Perry Central Coach Mike Spencer said his offensive line's "timing is pretty good right now. The big thing we're trying to work on right now is the push after contact so those holes don't suddenly get smaller."

The Commodore backs also showed good timing in hitting the holes as soon as they opened. And they also gained some key yardage after getting through the line.
