  • Fire & Ice finishes 4th in...

    HUNTINGBURG - Sydney Grass hit .615 to lead Fire & Ice, Tell City's age-16-and-under girls softball travel team, to fourth place in an eight-team tourney last weekend.

    Fire & Ice went 3-2 in the tourney.

    They beat Newburgh Blasters 10-4 and Evansville Thunder 9-0 before losing to the Evansville Stealers 7-6.

    They came back to beat the Evansville Earthquake 10-4 but lost to the Indiana Blasters 5-3.

    Jaci Garrett hit a home run in the first inning against the Newburgh Blasters and another one in the fourth inning against Evansville Thunder.

  • Top three teams win again Monday

    TELL CITY - The top three teams in Tell City's age-13-16 girls softball league continued their winning ways Monday, with Hair Razors raising their record to 8-0 and Sports Acceleration and Swiss Plywood each improving to 6-2.

    Hair Razors beat R&A Sports 20-1 as Miranda Zuelly hit a double and two singles.

    Jaci Garrett added a triple and a double and Cortni Strobel hit two singles.

    No one had more than one hit for R&A.

    Sports Acceleration beat Huber, Goffinet & Hagedorn Law Office 16-2 as Megan Lawalin hit a double and two singles.

  • Tecumseh stops shorthanded TC

    LYNNVILLE - Tecumseh held Tell City to five hits as the Braves swept a Diamond League baseball doubleheader Tuesday.

    Travis Jones had Tell City's only hit in the first game as Tecumseh won 7-1.

    Ben Stiles' ground out drove in Kyle Osborne with Tell City's only run. Osborne reached base by being hit by a pitch.

    Jordan Rhodes pitched the first 32?3 innings for Tell City to take the loss. He gave up six hits and no walks and struck out two.

    Tecumseh won the second game 4-2. Tell City had all four of its hits, including a double by Osborne, in the fourth inning.

  • Franzman's leads Coke by 1...

    TELL CITY - Franzman Insurance won all three of its games last week to remain undefeated in Tell City Babe Ruth League baseball.

    Coca-Cola won both its game last week to stay just one game behind Franzman's with one loss.

    Those two were scheduled to play each other Tuesday and will meet again Monday, with those games likely deciding the regular-season league champion.

    Franzman's had to survive a close game last Monday, edging Woodcrafters 6-5.

  • North Spencer beats PC twice

    LEOPOLD - A lack of offense by Perry Central Commodores led to defeats in a junior-high girls softball doubleheader against North Spencer Monday.

    North Spencer won the first game 11-0. Perry Cen-ral starting pitcher Hannah Harpenau was on the mound for four innings. Miranda Claise pitched the last inning for the Commodores.

    Paoli outhit Perry Central 13-0. "Defensively, we're getting better but we're letting balls go by we should be swinging at," said Perry Central Coach Greg Gibson.

  • Hair Razors increases league...

    TELL CITY - Four players had multiple hits for Hair Razors as they beat Sports Acceleration 10-2 Thursday to raise their record to 7-0 in Tell City's age-13-16 girls softball league.

    That gave Hair Razors a two-game lead in league standings over second-place Sports Acceleration and Swiss Plywood, which are each 5-2.

    Lindsey Wade hit a double and two singles in Hair Ra-zors' win.

    Jaci Garrett added two doubles and Cortni Strobel and Payton Reed each had two singles.

    Kyli Smithson, Mariah Nix and Haylee Page each had two singles for Sports Ac-celeration.

  • Tell City 16-U team 2nd in...

    HUNTINGBURG - With only one practice under their belts, the Tell City 16-and-under girls softball travel team came home with second place in the Diamonds of the South tourney June 7-8.

    The girls won four of five games before losing to the Indiana Blasters 11-3 in the championship game.

    "They had to play back to back in three games on Sunday to make it to the championship game," Coach Mark Rothergerber said. They played hard, he added, saying they felt good in finishing how they did.

  • Franzman still undefeated

    TELL CITY - Franzman Insurance won two games to retain a perfect season thus far in Tell City Babe Ruth League. The team defeated Marksmen Cab 18-6 June 3 and scored two runs in the seventh inning to defeat Thomas Glass, 7-3, June 4.

    In the game against Marksmen Cab, Trent Benningfield's homer helped Franzman explode in the fourth inning with nine runs. Nathan Wood had a hit in the same inning and Lucas Bryant had a single in the first and fifth innings and a double in the second.

  • Swimmers make splash with six...

    JASPER - Four of seven Tell City Swim Club members made top five finishes during Saturday and Sunday's Jasper Summer Invitational.

    Member Bailey Malone earned 14 points for her fifth place finish in the 200 meter individual medially in the age 13-14 group. In the age 15 50-meter freestyle race, Chelsea Malone also earned 14 points for her fifth-place win at Jasper Municipal Pool.

    Emily Sprinkle earned a total of 28 points for her two fifth place finishes, one for the age 9-10 100 meter fly and the other for the 50 meter back stroke.

  • HG&H gets first victory

    Coca-Cola drops Monday game in girls softball

    TELL CITY - Huber, Goffinet & Hagedorn Law Office had only four hits but took advantage of nine walks to beat Coca-Cola in Tell City age-13-16 girls softball Monday.

    Four players each had one hit for HG&H. Amanda Wagner hit a double for the team's only extra-base hit.

    Wagner also pitched all four innings for the win, walking only three and striking out two.

    Leslie Poole hit a single and a double for Coke and Cassidy Barnhill and Charissa Schaad each also had two hits.
