  • TCJHS volleyball practice Tuesday

    TELL CITY - The Tell City Junior High seventh- and eighth-grade volleyball team will begin practice at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

    Anyone interested can attend and must bring proper practice attire to school.

  • TC All-Stars finish second in...

    RAMSEY - Seven players out of an 11-player roster hit above .300 for the weekend as the Tell City 12-year-old all-star team finished second in a seven-team tourney at North Harrison. They finished the tourney 5 and 2.

    Austin Paulin hit .500 and Drew Mowery .478 to lead Tell City. Others hitting above .300 for the tourney were Trent Zuelly .350, Reese Miller, Derrick Snyder and Rhett Baumeister .333 and Dakota Braunecker .300.

  • Perry Countians help Rockport...

    BOONVILLE - Home runs by Perry Countians Wes Linette and Ryan Zuelly helped Rockport beat Boonville 22-6 to win the American Legion baseball sectional Sunday.

    Rockport hit four home runs in a four-batter span in the third inning.

    Linette, a 2008 Perry Central graduate, started that power parade with a two-run homer over the right-center-field fence.

    One out later Ryan Zuelly, a 2008 Tell City graduate, hit a homer over the left-center-field fence.

    Evan Jochim of Heritage Hills High School followed with another homer.

  • Huebschman wins Pan-Am masters...

    SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - Former Tell Citian Ray Huebschman repeated as champion in his weight class at the Pan-American Masters weightlifting competition July 11.

    Huebschman, 63, weighs 187 pounds and competed in the age-60-64 94 kilogram (208 pounds) and under division.

    He lifted 61 kilograms (134 pounds) snatch and 87 kilograms (192 pounds) clean and jerk.

    He won the competition for the second year in a row after his previous highest finish was second place in 2004.

    Huebschman is a 1962 graduate of Tell City High School but did not play any sports there.

  • Bobcats 2nd in 13-U BPA World...

    MICHIGAN CITY - The age-13 Perry County Bobcats overcame a first-game loss to place second in the 13-and-under Baseball Players Association World Series last weekend.

    The Bobcats had to play 10 games in the four-day tourney. They beat the Delaware County Eagles of Muncie 7-3 in the semifinals before losing 7-5 to the Triple Crown Hurricanes in the championship game.

    The Bobcats began the 20-team, double-elimination tourney last Thursday with a 3-1 loss to Duneland.

  • Smitty's regular-season...

    TELL CITY - Smitty's Memorial Team won the regular-season title in the Tell City Women's Softball League for the 13th year in row, breaking the previous record of 12 in a row set by Citizens National Bank 1984-95.

    Smitty's finished the regular season 8-0 but did not clinch the title until the final game of the season July 17, when it beat Coca-Cola 12-6. Coke entered that game with only one loss.

    Candy Jarboe, Tammy Litherland, Kim Brown and Amber Thomas each had three of Smitty's 23 hits that game.

    Melissa Hahus added a triple and a single.

  • Smitty's rallies in 8th to...

    TELL CITY - Smitty's Memorial Team rallied for five runs in the top of the eighth inning and beat Coca-Cola 14-9 to win the Tell City Women's Softball League playoff tourney Thursday.

    Coke scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the score. Amie Owen singled, Jennifer Stowe doubled, and Amber Hanan singled to produce those runs.

    Smitty's came back with consecutive hits by Lauren Goffinet, Candy Jarboe and Krystal Lawalin to start the eighth inning.

    Tammy Litherland followed with a sacrifice fly to put Smitty's up 11-9.

  • Collins, Meek shoot 12 under to...

    TELL CITY - Kim Collins and Jane Meek shot an apparent-tourney-record 12-under-par 64 to win the Hoosier Heights Country Club Ladies Golf Invitational scramble Tuesday.

    They scored eagles on the seventh, 14th and 17th holes and just missed a 3 1/2 foot putt for another eagle.

    They finished eight strokes ahead of runners-up June Cline and Martha Luckett of Owensboro, Ky.

    Greta Shelton and Pauline Payne of Owensboro won the net (with handicaps figured) title with 55.

    A total of 24 two-woman teams competed in the tourney.
