  • Schweizer Fest road runs Aug. 14

    TELL CITY—The Schweizer Fest two- and six-mile road runs will be held 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, starting from City Hall park.

    All runners and walkers are welcome to participate.  They may register by visiting www.RunPerryCounty.com or by stopping at Hollinden Realty for an entry form.  Registration fee is $15 up to Aug. 7. Late registration is $18 and will take place until 7:15 a.m. the morning of the race. All entrants will receive a T-shirt, with the first 300 receiving a high-quality dri-fit shirt.

    TELL CITY—With only one winning season in the last eight years, recent history hasn’t been kind to Tell City football.

    It’s also now been 18 years since the Marksmen have raised their last hardware in 1992, the same year that marked the end of a period that saw seven sectional championships in eight years.

  • Babe Ruth 14s place fourth in...

    NEWBURGH—Christopher Schaefer hit .563 to lead Tell City to fourth place in the age-14 Babe Ruth Southern State Tourney last weekend. 

    Schaefer also struck out six and walked four during his nine innings of work on the mound.

    Tell City dropped its opening game to Jasper de-spite a two-run home run by Cody Osborne in the first inning. 

    A poor defensive performance hindered Tell City that game. Four errors in the third inning led to two Jasper runs, and another three errors allowed four more runs in the last inning.

  • Tell City 13-year-olds fall to...

    BLOOMINGTON—Tell City was run-ruled twice by Newburgh to be knocked out of last weekend’s age-13 Babe Ruth Southern State tourney.

    After beating North Vernon in the first round, Tell City fell to Newburgh 19-4 the next day.

    “We didn’t play one aspect of the game,” said Telll City Coach Wes Deom. “When you play like that, you get beat like that.”

    Tell City came back strong against the Bloomington Reds, scoring 25 runs in a five-inning run-rule-shortened game.

    TELL CITY - Tri-County Swim Club's Amanda Wagner took home four first place medals in the women's 15 and over age group at Sunday's S.W.I.M.

  • Kashyab wins another doubles...

    VINCENNES - Tell City High School's Anjan Kashyab won the boys U-16 doubles title over the weekend in the USTA Trail Blazer Junior Open at Vincennes University. Pairing up with Caleb Heiman of Evansville, the Kashyab Heiman duo defeated Colton Butcher of Washington and Lewis Nugent of Elnora 6-2, 6-4 in the final. Kashyab also placed second in the single's bracket at the tournament, losing to Krishan Kumar of Terre Haute in a competitive championship match 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 10-8.  Victory's over Bradley Wilzbacher of Fort Branch 6-0, 6-1

  • Run-swim-run set for Saturday

    TELL CITY - The first Tell City Run-Swim-Run competition will be held 7:30 a.m. Saturday. The competition will begin at City Hall park with a 5-kilometer running race. It will continue with an 800-meter swim at John F. Kennedy Pool and conclude with another 5-K running race. Race-day registration will be held 6:30 to 7 a.m. Registration that day will cost $40. Registrations postmarked by July 19 will cost $35. All entrants will receive a T-shirt.

    The race is sponsored by the Tri-County Swim Club and Perry County Wellness.

  • Tell City to hold girls tourney

    TELL CITY - The Tell City Girls Softball League will sponsor the Rumble on the River fastpitch tourney for ages 8-and-under, 10-U, 12-U and 14-U at its complex on 19th Street Aug. 6-8. The tourneys will be machine pitch for 8-U and 10-U and ASA fastpitch rules will apply for 12-U and 14-U. There is a three-game guarantee - two pool games followed by single-elimination. Entry fee is $225 for 8-U and 10-U and $250 for 12-U and 14-U. Entry deadline is Aug.

  • Tell City routs all 3 district...

    TELL CITY—Tell City scored 50 runs in three games to win the age-14 District 5 Babe Ruth title last weekend.

    Tell City won all three games by the 10-run rule.

    Cody Osborne led Tell City with an .875 batting average including two two-run homers.

    Austin Paulin posted an .800 average, going 8 for 10 with six singles and two doubles. Jimmy Phillips batted .714, going 5 for 7 with a double.

    Other high batting averages included Rhett Baumeister’s .571, Drew Mowery and Dakota Braunecker each at .500, and Reese Miller .444.

  • TC 13s 2nd in district

    CORYDON—Spenser Beard hit .722 (13 for 18) with 16 RBIs to lead Tell City to second place in the age-13 District 5 Babe Ruth tourney last weekend.

    Tell City went 2-2 in the three-team, double-elimination tourney, beating Corydon twice but losing twice to eventual champion North Harrison.

    Beard went 4 for 5 with a double, triple and five RBIs as Tell City crushed Corydon 21-6 in the first round.

    Blake Haller went 3 for 3 with a double and four RBIs and Xavier Barnes added two hits and two walks. Dalton Snyder and Bryce Garrett each also had two hits.
