FRENCH LICK—Nathan Shaw threw a two-hitter and had three hits himself as Perry Central shut out Springs Valley 5-0 in junior high baseball Wednesday.
Shaw walked only one in the five-inning game.
He drove in two runs at the plate.
Payton Thompson added two hits and one RBI. Drew Craig also drove in a run.
Shaw and Michael Sims each had three hits as Perry Central won the second game 16-8.
Sims had a double and triple among his hits. Shaw also hit a triple and Craig hit a double. Thompson added two singles.
TELL CITY—Katelyn Kaufman and Allie LaForce combined to pitch a two-hitter as Hair Razors beat Legacy Financial 12-4 Friday to clinch Tell City’s age-13-16 girls softball league’s regular-season title.
Hair Razors finished the season 6-2. Carriage Inn and Cash Waggner & Associates each finished 5-3 to tie for second in the five-team league.
Sierra Alvarez hit a single and a double for Hair Razors Friday.
Taylor McFarling also had two hits and LaForce hit a double.
INDIANAPOLIS—Tell City junior center McKenzie Hayes has been selected to play in the ninth annual girls IBCA/IHSAA Underclass Showcase at Ben Davis High School 2 p.m. July 12.
Staged by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association with support from the Indiana High School Athletic Association, the Underclass Showcase events are NCAA certified. Each is designed to give exposure to top basketball prospects from across the state to colleges across the state and nation.
FORT BRANCH—Tell City had a shortage of hits in a Diamond League baseball doubleheader loss to Gibson Southern last Thursday.
Gibson Southern won the first game 3-2 despite an RBI double by Tell City’s Trent Rainey down the left-field line in the first inning.
Rhett Baumeister pitched the first 3 2/3 innings for Tell City to take the loss.
Gibson Southern took advantage of Tell City pitchers’ control problems to win the second game 7-6.
TELL CITY—Bryce Lain and Jimmy Phillips combined for 11 RBIs as Coca-Cola beat Logos 20-5 Monday to raise its record to 8-0 in the Babe Ruth League.
Coke clinched at least a tie for the regular-season title with the win.
Lain went 4 for 5 with six RBIs in the four-inning game. Phillips went 2 for 2 with five RBIs.
Reed Goffinet went 3 for 4 with two RBIs. Mike Landers also had three hits and Andy Froehlich added two.
Goffinet also made a strong pitching effort for the win.
VIENNA, Austria—Tell City graduate Lauren Goffinet was one of the leading scorers for the USA team that competed in the Vienna Cup Pentecost women’s basketball tourney June 11-13.
The 5-foot-11 Goffinet started every game as the U.S. team went 3-2 in the 16-team tourney.
The team then played an exhibition game in the Czech Republic against that country’s university team June 14. The USA won that game by 23 points as Goffinet scored 20.
