    Perry Central football coach Mike Spencer earned his 200th career football victory Friday. All but 17 of those wins have come with Perry County schools, making him the winningest coach in the county’s history.

  • Bulldogs bump, set, spike to...

    HAWESVILLE, Ky.—Cannelton had a stronger bump-set-spike attack than usual as it beat Hancock County 22-25, 25-16, 25-16 in volleyball Tuesday.
    “We were actually setting the ball up and utilizing our three hits,” said Cannelton Coach Felicia Myers.
    Sammie James made 27 good sets and Taylor Lawalin added 25.
    Allicyn Garrett made 10 spikes, including three kills. She and Sarah Powers each made four blocks.
    Mikah Hemmings served 10 consecutive points for the Bulldogs in the second game.

  • PC 7th at Barr-Reeve; tops...

    MONTGOMERY—Hannah Harpenau made seven kills and served three aces as Perry Central beat Linton-Stockton 25-14, 25-18 for seventh place in Barr-Reeve’s volleyball tourney Saturday.
    Sydney Goffinet added five kills and Ashley Gengelbach four. Gengelbach made three blocks.
    Goffinet also served three aces and made five digs. Brittany Parker made nine digs and Grace James had 13 assists.

    TELL CITY—McKenzie Hayes made 27 kills and Tell City used strong back-row defense to beat Heritage Hills 25-20, 25-14, 25-17 in PAC volleyball Tuesday.

  • Crawford County defeats Marksmen

    TELL CITY—Anjan Kashyab improved to 7-0 but Crawford County beat Tell City 4-1 in boys tennis Wednesday.
    Kashyab beat Patrick Allen 6-1, 6-1 in No. 1 singles.
    Crawford County won the other matches in straight sets.
    Josh Totten beat Zach Fisher 6-0, 6-1 in No. 2 singles and Maxi Schrader beat Jacob Miller by the same score in No. 3.
    Tyson Sloan and Remi Griswold defeated Tyler Groves and Dakota Braunecker 6-0, 7-5 in No. 1 doubles.
    Jesse Baize and Ethan Ingle beat Austin Paulin and Jeff Yeung 6-2, 6-1 in No. 2 doubles.

    LEOPOLD—Lane Lynch ran for two touchdowns and passed for two as Perry Central defeated Tell City 34-6 in eighth grade football Thursday.

    TELL CITY—Jessica Ballman was the medalist with 53 strokes as Tell City beat Crawford County 251-265 in girls golf Thursday.
    Amber Fentress shot 57, Jenny Hess 70 and Courtney Blinzinger 71 to complete the 2-5 Marksmen’s scoring.
    Ballman tied South Spencer’s Chandra Schroeder for medalist honors with another 53 Wednesday but Tell City lost to the Rebels 226-241 at the Rustic course.
    Other Tell City scorers were Fentress with 60, Hess 62, and Blinzinger 66.

  • Commodores can’t ace Braves

    LYNNVILLE—Tecumseh limited Perry Central to four ace serves and beat the Commodores 25-21, 25-12, 25-19 in volleyball Thursday.
    Perry Central’s top three servers went 30 for 32—but Tecumseh did a good job receiving them.
    Ashley Gengelbach and Hannah Harpenau each made 10 kills for Perry Central and Sydney Goffinet added four. Gengelbach also made seven blocks.
    Harpenau made 11 digs and two blocks. Grace James made seven digs and two blocks and had 18 assists, and Lauren Davis made five digs.

  • Marksmen outhit Lanesville

    TELL CITY—Tell City made kills on 38 percent of its spikes as it beat Lanesville 25-21, 25-19, 25-16 in volleyball Wednesday.
    “I think that’s our best percentage of the season,” said Tell City Coach Dalonda Hayes. “Our hitting was on all night.”
    McKenzie Hayes made 19 kills to lead the Marksmen. Logan Flannagan and Stori Beard each added four.
    Charissa Lahee had 15 assists and served 14 points.
    Hayes added nine points, including seven aces.
    Hayes and Hana Reed each made eight digs.

  • PC girls 2nd in North Harrison...

    RAMSEY—Cathryn Peter placed third in 20:47.4 to lead Perry Central to second place in North Harrison’s 21-team girls cross country invitational Thursday.
    Tell City’s Sarah Goffinet was fourth in 21:03.5. But she was the only Marksman to place in the top 40 while Perry Central had seven in it.
    Tell City finished 11th.
    Besides Peter, Perry Central scorers were Jessica Theis, 18th in 22:31.5; Susan Schwartz, 19th in 22:34.5; Megan Thomas, 29th in 23:12.6; and Jessica Foster, 32nd in 23:20.8.
