    LEOPOLD—Perry Central boys basketball coach Matt Carter said he told his players before Tuesday’s game that they would break out of their shooting slump that night.
    He was a good prophet, as the Commodores hit 56.5 percent from the field in a 70-55 key PLAC win over Crawford County.
    They hit 5 of 6 three-point shots in the first quarter as they jumped to a 23-14 lead. Four players made them, with Derek Thomas getting two.

    TELL CITY—Evansville North hit 52.3 percent from the field to beat Tell City 61-42 in boys basketball Thursday.
    The Huskies hit only 8 of 20 from the field in the first half and 14 of 31 in the first three quarters.
    But they made their first three shots of the fourth quarter—all three-pointers by Jaylen Chambers—to widen their lead to 49-32.
    Chambers finished with 23 points on 8 of 11 field-goal shooting, including 5 of 6 from three-point range, and 2 of 2 free throws.

    LEOPOLD—Perry Central’s increased defensive pressure in the second half forced Northeast Dubois turnovers as the Commodores won 69-59 in boys basketball Thursday.
    Perry Central Coach Matt Carter said, “ We came out of halftime down five (34-29). We wanted to take it a possession at a time. We picked them up full-court man to man. We made a run toward the end of the quarter and wound up being up one.

    FERDINAND—Mater Dei went on an 18-0 run early in the second quarter en route to beating Tell City 77-30 in the Forest Park girls basketball sectional semifinals Friday.

    FERDINAND—Mater Dei’s defense forced 25 turnovers and held Perry Central to 18.4 percent field-goal shooting to beat the Commodores 68-29 for the Forest Park girls basketball sectional title Saturday.
    Ashley Graves led Perry Central with 12 points and seven rebounds. She hit 2 of 6 from the field and 8 of 11 free throws.

    FERDINAND—Different heroes keep stepping up for Perry Central’s girls basketball team.
    Friday it was Erica Hill in the second half as the Commodores held off North Posey 55-49 to advance to the Forest Park sectional championship game.
    Perry Central hit 61.9 percent from the field and outrebounded the Vikings 20-5 in the first half to build a 28-14 lead.
    Center Ashley Graves was 5 for 6 from the field and grabbed a team-high six rebounds.

  • Hornets sting cold Bulldogs

    HAWESVILLE, Ky.—Hancock County started the game hot and Cannelton was cold as Hancock County won 62-25 in girls basketball Saturday.
    The Hornets hit 49.1 percent from the field for the game compared with Cannelton’s 18.9 percent.
    “We came out flat,” said Cannelton Coach Mike Garrett. “We just couldn’t hit any shots—everything was short.
    “And we get tired down the stretch (because they have only six healthy players).”
    Meanwhile the Hornets were having little trouble scoring from almost anywhere.

  • Two Tell Citians finish sixth in...

    NEWBURGH—Tell City’s Kain Crawford and Cody Osborne placed sixth in their weight classes at the Castle wrestling regional Saturday.
    Crawford got pinned in 3:00 by eventual champion Ashton Forzley of Mater Dei in a 152-pound first round match.
    Crawford then beat J.R. Wallace of Princeton 7-1 but got pinned by Will Vanhook of Reitz in 2:40.
