  • TC has 3 champs at Jeffersonville

    JEFFERSONVILLE—Tell City Wrestling Club members K.T. Hartness, Devon Casebolt and Jace Bryant won their weight classes in a freestyle tourney Saturday.

    Hartness went 6-0 with three pins to lead 10 wrestlers in the peewee 45-pound division.

    Casebolt was first among six wrestlers in the bantam 50 division, going 4-0 with three pins and a technical fall.

    Bryant went 2-0 with one pin and one technical fall to win the peewee 55 weight class.

    Cameron Kessinger placed second in intermediate 80, going 4-1 with three pins.

  • Froehlich, Weiss place in...

    INDIANAPOLIS—Dylan Froehlich of the Tell City Wrestling Club placed third in his weight class at the ISWA schoolboy and juniors folkstyle state tourney March 14.

    Froehlich went 5-1 to place third among 24 wrestlers in the junior 215-pound weight class.

    He registered two pins. 

    Jeff Weiss placed fifth among 35 in the junior 152 weight class.

    He went 5-2 with one pin.

    Froehlich placed second in his first freestyle tourney of the season at Mooresville last weekend.

  • Tell City girls take 3rd in...

    HUNTINGBURG—Elizabeth Bishop and Hanna Goffinet each placed third in an individual event to Tell City to third place in the PAC junior high girls swim meet Thursday.

    Heritage Hills won with 334 points. Tell City scored 183.

    Bishop placed third in the 50-yard butterfly in 35.66 seconds.

    Goffinet swam the 50 breaststroke in 43.00 for her third place.

    Goffinet and Bishop teamed with Makenzie Alvey and Kassi Peter to take third in the 200 freestyle relay in 2:16.16.

  • Tell City boys also finish third...

    HUNTINGBURG—Trent Harding placed fourth in two individual events to lead Tell City to third place in the PAC junior high boys swim meet Thursday.

    South Spencer won with 283 points. Tell City scored 159 to finish six ahead of fourth-place Heritage Hills in the six-team meet.

    Harding took fourth in the 100-yard individual medley in 1:26.09 and fourth in the 50 butterfly in 40.23 seconds.

    He teamed with Trent Rainey, Hunter Sandage and Wade Bryant to place second in the 400 free relay in 5:48.20.

  • Carter, Myers to face Mountain...

    Is Forest Park boys basketball center Jordan Myers ready to face a college team that beat the University of Louisville this year?

    Is Perry Central graduate Aaron Carter ready to face a team that beat a team that beat Louisville?

    Each will get a chance next year. Carter, of course, plays for Indiana State in the Missouri Valley Conference and Myers has signed to play for Southern Illinois, another MVC team.

    And next season the Missouri Valley vs. Mountain West Conference Challenge Series starts.

  • Marksmen have three repeat MVP...

    TELL CITY—Greg Clayton, Dylan Froehlich and Lauren Goffinet were repeat Most Valuable Player award winners at Tell City’s winter sports banquet Monday.

    Clayton won the boys swimming MVP award for the second year in a row.

    Froehlich won the wrestling MVP award outright after sharing it with Greg Batie last year.

    Goffinet won the girls basketball MVP award outright after sharing it with Kara McClintic last year.

    Andy Chinn was named the boys basketball MVP and Chelsea Malone received the girls swimming MVP award.

  • Goffinet holds own in top 60

    INDIANAPOLIS—Tell City senior Lauren Goffinet hit the winning shot in one of her scrimmages in Hoosier Basketball Magazine’s top 60 girls workout Sunday.

    Goffinet was one of 28 players from the northern and southern parts of the state participating in the first session of the workout.

    After about 20 minutes of drills, the players were divided into four teams of seven. Each team then scrimmaged each of the other three for 10 minutes with a running clock.

  • Kieser champion as Tell City 4th...

    LINCOLN CITY—J.R. Kieser won the 120-pound title to lead Tell City to fourth place in the nine-team PAC junior high wrestling tourney Saturday.

    Gibson Southern won the team title with 299 points. Tell City scored 255.

    Paul Heldring of Pike Central scored a takedown against Kieser in the finals. But Kieser turned a second-period roll into a reversal and pinned Heldring in 1:48.

    Kieser pinned Tony Rickard of North Posey in 2:55 in the first round and beat Tony Allen of Gibson Southern 4-2 in the semifinals to finish the season 14-9.
