  • Chinn, Goffinet to play in all-...

    NEW CASTLE—Tell City’s Andy Chinn and Lauren Goffinet will be among 96 of the state’s top basketball players playing in the first Class Basketball All-Star Classic Saturday.

    There will be four games—two for boys and two for girls.

    Goffinet will play in the first game at 11 a.m. Perry County time as stars from Class 2A and A teams in the Indianapolis metropolitan area face their counterparts from the rest of the state.

  • Perry Central splits two...

    LEOPOLD—Miranda Claise pitched a no-hitter and a two-hitter as Perry Central split junior high girls softball doubleheaders Saturday and Monday.

    Claise threw a no-hitter as the Commodores beat Paoli 4-2 in the second game of Saturday’s twinbill.

    She struck out three and walked one in that five-inning game.

    Perry Central had three hits—singles by Hannah Harpenau, Allison Parker and Kosha Wetzel. Parker and Wetzel each drove in two runs.

    Paoli won the opener 4-3 in six innings.

  • Sports Acceleration, Cash...

    TELL CITY—Pitching remained strong for Cash Waggner & Associates and Sports Acceleration as each improved to 3-0 with wins in Tell City’s age-13-16 girls softball league Monday.

    Taylor Benningfield and Kosha Wetzel combined to pitch a one-hitter as Cash Waggner beat Frederick Sheet Metal 5-2.

    Benningfield struck out six and walked four in four innings. Wetzel struck out none and walked none in a 1-2-3 inning.

    Payton Reed had Frederick’s only hit, an RBI single in the third inning.

  • All-PAC softball team released

    LINCOLN CITY—The Pocket Athletic Conference finally released its all-conference girls softball team Monday, two weeks after it was selected.

    As reported here previously, Tell City’s Lauren Goffinet was named to the 15-girl honor squad.

    Conference champion Gibson Southern and runner-up Tecumseh, which won the Class A state title, each had four girls named to the team. Third-place Heritage Hills had three girls make it.

  • Corydon overtakes Commodores

    CORYDON—Corydon scored four runs on just two hits in the fifth inning to beat Perry Central 6-4 in age-14 baseball Saturday.

    Two walks and an error also helped fuel that rally.

    “We had a couple of errors that let some guys score,” said Perry Central Coach Brian Cassidy.

    Adam Kleaving hit a home run and a single and drove in two runs to lead Perry Central’s seven-hit attack in the seven-inning game.

    His home run cleared the left-field fence near the 330-foot marking.

    Colten Hedinger added one hit and drew two walks.

  • Miners shut out TC in regional...

    BRETZVILLE—Stephanie Fougeroussse pitched a three-hitter and Jenica Ringo hit a two-run homer as Linton-Stockton beat Tell City 3-0 to win the Forest Park Class 2A girls softball regional June 6.

    Linton-Stockton improved to 20-5 with its 15th consecutive win. Tell City finished the season 17-9.

    The game was a scoreless tie the first three innings. Tell City got out of a two-on, one-out jam in the third inning when second baseman Paige Gelarden turned a nice tag-and-throw double play.

  • Ress hurls one-hitter to defeat...

    BRETZVILLE—Josalyn Ress pitched a one-hitter and Amber Thomas drove in two runs as Tell City beat Clarksville 3-0 in the first round of the Class 2A girls softball regional Saturday.

    The game started well for Clarksville, as the Generals’ first hitter, Brooke Miley, beat out a slap hit to the shortstop by about a step.

    Amber Wingler sacrificed Miley to second. But on a possible fake-bunt situation by the next batter, Tell City catcher Lauren Goffinet threw Miley out trying to steal third.

  • Maddle, Gunn make All-PAC in...

    LINCOLN CITY—Tell City’s Mike Maddle and Trent Gunn were named to the All-PAC baseball team in voting by conference coaches Monday.

    Maddle, a junior, was named the team’s catcher for the second year in a row, as he made it last year for Gibson Southern.

    Gunn, a sophomore, was one of the four infielders selected.

    Maddle led the Marksmen with a .486 batting average (34 for 70), the third highest in team history.

    He hit five home runs and seven doubles, drove in 19 runs, and scored 29 runs.

  • Goffinet on All-PAC

    LINCOLN CITY—Tell City senior catcher Lauren Goffinet was named to the All-PAC girls softball team in voting by conference coaches.

    The team was selected June 1 but not released until June 15 as some coaches asked that it not be released while some PAC teams were still playing in the state tourney.

    Goffinet made the 15-girl team as one of the utility players and Tell City sophomore Josalyn Ress received honorable mention as a pitcher.

  • TC Diamond League team beats...

    FERDINAND – Tell City’s Diamond League team kept Forest Park to no runs winning 10-0 and only let them score two in Tuesday’s doubleheader in Ferdinand.

    In game one Travis Jones and Trent Nelson pitched while Cordell Synder caught for Tell City. Kyle Osborne went 3-for-4, hitting one home run and receiving two RBIs. Shane Weedman was 2-for-3 with one RBI, Dayne Seibert went 2-for-4 and Snyder was 2-for-4 with one RBI.
