  • Frederick Sheet Metal takes sole...

TELL CITY—Josalyn Ress and Lacy Briggs combined to pitch a no-hitter as Frederick Sheet Metal beat Cash Waggner & Associates 10-1 to take over sole possession of second place in Tell City’s age-13-16 girls softball league Monday.

Frederick Sheet Metal and Cash Waggner each entered this game with a 4-2 record. But Frederick Sheet Metal was in control from the first inning, when it scored four runs on three hits, two walks and two errors.

  • Chinn, Goffinet help State all-...

NEW CASTLE - Recent Tell City graduates Andy Chinn and Lauren Goffinet held their own with players from throughout the state as they helped their teams win in the first Indiana Class Basketball All-Star Classic Saturday.

The Classic featured two boys and two girls games, with players from the Indianapolis Metro Area taking on players from the rest of the state.

One game for each gender featured stars from Class A and 2A schools and the other featured players from Class 3A and 4A schools.

  • Classic good idea but still...

Like any first-year project, the Indiana Class Basketball All-Star Classic needs some fine tuning. But I like the basic concept behind it and think it will gain more popularity with players and fans in future years.

One thing I like is it is virtually the only all-star classic in which half the players must come from schools in the state's two smallest enrollment classes.

Thus a lot of players from smaller schools who got overlooked by other all-star games got to play in this one.

Cassidy pitched five innings with three strikes and five walks. Derek Thomas pitched one strike and two walks in the last inning. Coach Brian Cassidy said catcher Andrew Mosby "picked off two kids stealing second base."

  • Crawford County falls to...

LEOPOLD – Tuesday was a good night for Perry Central's Age 13 baseball team, winning both games against Crawford County's Age 14 team.

  • Kashyab wins TLAC Columbus...

COLUMBUS – Anjan Kashyab of Tell City played in the USTA Boys 14 Singles TLAC Columbus Junior Open in Columbus and won the championship title.

He played in a tough finals game, which lasted one hour and 40 minutes with high humidity and temperature more than 105 degrees on the court. He beat Graham McMullen of Pendleton 6-4;6-4.

He now has a 30-11 win-loss record in the USTA 14 Singles category in Indiana. In the preliminary rounds Kashyab got a bye due to his rankings and in the semi-final he beat Ernest XI of Columbus 6-2;6-3.

  • Southridge halts TC win streak

TELL CITY — Tell City rallied twice to try to keep its winning streak going but lost a Diamond League baseball doubleheader to Southridge Thursday.

Those were Tell City's first losses of the summer. Tell City was 5-0 in the league and 7-0 overall after sweeping the Heritage Hills Sluggers Junior Legion team in a non-Diamond League doubleheader Wednesday.

  • Kiwanis regains sole possession...

TELL CITY - Franzman Insurance entered Wednesday's Babe Ruth League baseball game tied for first place with Kiwanis, each with three losses.

But Franzman's 4-3 loss to Marksman Cab Company, coupled with Kiwanis' 9-7 win over Woodcrafters Thursday, put Kiwanis alone in first place and also put Marksman Cab back into the race.

Three of Marksman Cab's runs Wednesday were unearned.

  • Column: Weird baseball schedule...

After playing only Crawford County and North Harrison all month, Perry Central's age-13 and age-14 baseball teams finally get to play someone else this Friday - each other.

The Perry Central teams play in a summer league that also includes Mitchell, Dubois and Paoli. But they are not scheduled to face any of those teams this summer. Those three play only each other.

Technically, each team does get to play more than two opponents, though.
