  • South Central tops Bulldogs

    CANNELTON - Cannelton's baseball team hasn't lost by the 10-run rule yet, but South Central scored in six of the seven innings to beat the Bulldogs 16-6 Thursday.

    Cannelton tied the game 6-6 in the bottom of the third inning with two runs on two walks, a single by Thomas Lane, and RBI grounders by Spencer Herzog and Cody Lawalin.

    South Central came right back with four runs in the top of the fourth to take the lead for good, though.

    The Rebels had just two hits that inning, as two walks, two throwing errors and a wild pitch also contributed to those runs.

  • Tell City shuts out Crawford...

    MARENGO - Tell City won every match in straight sets to beat Crawford County 5-0 in girls tennis Monday.

    The Marksmen lost only three games in the three singles matches.

    Kathi Kassen shut out Brandy Lewicke 6-0, 6-0 in No. 1, Bethany Peter beat Brooke Tyler 6-1, 6-1 in No. 2, and Stephani Wrye beat Ali Mahoney 6-0, 6-1 in No. 3.

    Alisha Patton and Trish Solbrig beat Alyse Carr and Chealsey Broughton 6-1, 6-1 in No. 1 doubles.

    Jennifer McDaniel and Jenelle Clausen defeated Nerissa Lindauer and Ketin Baize 6-2, 6-2 in No. 2 doubles.

  • Two teams no-hit Cannelton

    LYNNVILLE - Marissa Feagley pitched a perfect game as Tecumseh beat Cannelton 21-0 in girls softball Saturday.

    Feagley struck out 11 in the five-inning game.

    Tecumseh had only seven hits but scored eight runs in the first inning on just two hits.

    Cannelton pitcher Shy May walked four and hit five batters that inning.

    May pitched a complete game, walking 17, hitting seven, and striking out none.

  • TC 6th, PC 8th in golf tourney

    ENGLISH - Ian Reed was the tourney medalist as Tell City finished sixth among 10 teams in Crawford County's boys golf invitational Saturday.

    Springs Valley won the nine-hole tourney with 175 strokes. Tell City shot 200 and Perry Central was eighth with 203.

    Reed shot a 5-over-par 41 to lead the 49-man field.

    One reason no one came close to par was the weather, said Tell City Coach Jim Meek. "It was wet and windy and also got pretty cold."

    Other Tell City scorers were Alex Cole with a 51 and Victor Schutzius and Jake Roland with 54 apiece.

  • Huber leads PC to victory

    LEOPOLD - Nick Huber won four events to lead Perry Central to victory in a boys triangular track meet Tuesday.

    Perry Central scored 76.5 points, Southridge 49, and South Spencer 41.5.

    Huber won the 110-meter high hurdles in 15.34 seconds and the 300 intermediate hurdles in 42.9.

    He ran the 200 dash for the first time and won it in 23.18.

    He teamed with Michael Ernst, Zach Hagedorn and Todd Gehlhausen to win the 1600 relay in 3:37.

    Ernst ran a 50.75 lap on that relay and also won the 800 run in 2:05.

  • Perry Central loses three games

    CORYDON - Perry Central committed seven errors in an 18-9 baseball loss to Corydon Monday.

    Corydon had 13 hits and also took advantage of several walks.

    Bo Gibson, the first of six Perry Central pitchers, took the loss. He walked four and struck out one in 11?3 innings.

    Ryan Hanan went 2 for 4 to lead Perry Central's seven-hit attack and Ryan Kessens drove in two runs.

    Adam Riley went 5 for 5 with seven RBIs for Corydon.

  • Marksmen overtake Huskies in 6th...

    EVANSVILLE - Tell City rallied for three runs with two outs in the sixth inning to beat Evansville North 5-4 in baseball Tuesday.

    The Marksmen trailed 3-2 entering the sixth and their first two batters that inning flied out.

    Eric Henrickson then reached base on an error by the second baseman and Andy Chinn followed with a single.

    Walks to Jason Hackbarth and Cody Pfeifer produced the tying run.

    Two more runs scored as Jordan Rhodes reached base on an error by the shortstop.

    North outhit Tell City 8-6 but committed three errors and walked nine batters.

  • Tell City shuts out Perry Central

    LEOPOLD - Josalyn Ress pitched a one-hitter and Tell City used a big first inning to beat Perry Central 7-0 in girls softball Monday.

    Ress struck out eight and walked two.

    "She pitched smart in the way she moved the ball around," said Tell City Coach Dusty Beard.

    Perry Central's Hilarie Hahus opened the bottom of the first inning with a single to right field. But she was doubled off first base after Tell City catcher Kyli Smithson caught Morgan Gibson's popped up bunt attempt.

  • HBCA needs to get its act...

    The Hoosier Basketball Coaches Association was formed in 1985 with some noble goals. But it hasn't achieved them very well lately because of a lack of organization.

    Though it has Hoosier in its name, the HBCA covers only roughly the southern half of the Hoosier state.

    It was formed to get more attention focused on players from that part of the state.

  • Panthers stop PC girls

    CORYDON - Jenna Keinsley pitched a one-hitter as Corydon beat Perry Central 13-0 in the Commodores' girls softball season opener Wednesday.

    Keinsley walked only one and struck out 12, striking out every Commodore starter at least once.

    "She just overpowered us a little bit early," said Perry Central Coach Greg Gibson.

    Perry Central's Hilarie Hahus reached base on an error by the shortstop to start the game. But the next three batters struck out.
