  • PC falls to Rebels, Rangers

    ELIZABETH - South Central scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to hold off Perry Central 9-5 in girls softball Saturday.

    The Commodores, who had been shut out in their previous three games, had their most productive offense of the season, amassing five hits.

    Hilarie Hahus went 2 for 4 with a double to lead the Commodores. She drove in two runs.

    Abby Preher was sidelined with a wrist injury so Cassie Wilgus pitched her first varsity game for the Commodores. She struck out two and walked five.

  • Perry Central boys win TC...

    TELL CITY - Nick Huber won four events to lead Perry Central to first place in the Marksmen Invitational boys track meet Saturday.

    Perry Central won the seven-team meet with 109 points, one more than runner-up Forest Park, to raise its season record to 15-0. Tell City finished fourth with 61 points.

    Huber won the high jump by clearing 6 feet, 3 inches and took both hurdles races. He ran the 110-meter high hurdles in 14.57 seconds, breaking his own school record, and the 300 intermediate hurdles in 40.46.

  • TC boys pommel Rebels

    REO - Dalton Sweeney won two individual events and two relays as Tell City trounced South Spencer 86-37 in boys track Tuesday.

    Sweeney won the 1600-meter run in 4:43 and the 800 in 2:04.5.

    He teamed with Greg Hollinden, Spencer Sandage and Jordan Alvey to win the 3200 relay in 9:25.75.

    Sweeney, Patrick Swayne, Zach Avallone and Kyle Kessinger won the 1600 relay in 3:39.96.

    "Dalton ran easily his best meet of the year," said Tell City Coach Chris Hollinden. "That kind of surprised me because we've had so many meets lately I thought he'd have tired legs."

  • Ricker, Titans blast Tell City

    TELL CITY - Roman Ricker hit three home runs as Gibson Southern defeated Tell City 11-4 in PAC baseball Saturday.

    Four errors also hurt Tell City.

    A walk and an error on a dropped ball at first base set up a three-run homer by Ricker in the first inning.

    He added a solo shot in the third inning and a two-run homer in the fourth, though Tell City assistant coach Mark Wahl said those last two were aided by a strong wind blowing out to left field.

    Tell City scored all four of its runs in the fifth inning, which was highlighted by Evan Rothgerber's two-run double.

  • PC wins 1 of 3 games

    DUBOIS - Perry Central's baseball team hit three home runs as it beat Barr-Reeve 12-2 in the Northeast Dubois Classic Saturday.

    Bo Gibson hit a two-run shot in the first inning, Clint Schank hit a solo shot in the fourth inning, and Wes Linette added a three-run blast later that inning.

    The Commodores' 10-hit attack also included two doubles by Austin Hauser, who drove in two runs. Gibson and Linette each drove in three.

    Perry Central batters did not strike out at all in the six-inning game.

  • Perry Central second, TC third...

    TELL CITY - Perry Central won only one event but used its depth to place second in the seven-team Marksmen Invitational girls track meet Saturday.

    Forest Park won with 140 points and Perry Central scored 113.

    Tell City, which won four events, placed third with 87 points.

    Perry Central's Jessica Huber won the 300-meter low hurdles in 51.78 seconds and placed second in the 100 intermediate hurdles in 16.78, just six-hundredths of a second behind winner Karla Knust of Forest Park.

    Tell City junior Tiffany Davis won the 1600 run in 5:47.50 and the 3200 in 12:36.41.

  • Castle boys outrun Marksmen

    NEWBURGH - Zach Avallone won two events but Tell City lost to Castle 80-43 in boys track Wednesday.

    Avallone won the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in 41.41 seconds and the long jump at 18 feet, 7 1/4 inches.

    He placed second in the 110 high hurdles in 15.08.

    Tell City sprinter Kyle Kessinger, still recovering from a preseason ankle injury, ran only one race but won it handily.

    He took the 400 dash in 51.27 seconds, just one-hundredth of a second behind fifth place on Tell City's all-time honor roll.

  • Harrison nips Tell City

    EVANSVILLE - Harrison won No. 1 and 2 singles and No. 1 doubles to edge Tell City 3-2 in girls tennis Thursday.

    Tell City's Stephani Wrye beat Daniele Coleman 6-2, 6-4 in No. 3 singles.

    The Marksmen also won in No. 2 doubles, with Kari Gladish and Jennifer McDaniel outlasting Mandy Brooks and Ellie Small 7-6 (7-2), 6-7 (2-7), 10-6.

    Harrison won the top two singles matches each 6-1, 6-1. Sarah Beudel beat Kathi Kassen in No. 1 and Sarah Mastison beat Bethany Peter in No. 2.

  • Crawford County defeats Cannelton

    MARENGO - Cannelton's girls softball team got its first hits and run of the season Thursday but lost to Crawford County 24-1.

    Crawford County put the game away with 18 runs in the first inning, when the Bulldogs committed five errors.

    But the Bulldogs settled down after that and committed only two errors the rest of the way.

    After being no-hit in their first two games, they got three hits in this game, including a double to left-center field by Stephanie Posey in the fourth inning.

    Posey came around to score on two ground outs, with Shy May getting the RBI.

  • PC falls to Raiders, Wolfpack

    LEOPOLD - Opponents' late-inning rallies beat Perry Central in baseball Wednesday and Thursday.

    Southridge beat the Commodores 8-5 at Huntingburg Wednesday, scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth to break a 5-5 tie.

    Perry Central led Crawford County 7-3 going into the seventh inning Thursday. But the Wolfpack rallied for five runs in the top of the seventh to win the PLAC game 8-7.

    Three hits, three walks and two errors fueled that rally.

    Perry Central left-hander Drew Schroer gave up the tying runs and was then relieved by Seth Raetz, who took the loss.
