  • Lions rout Bulldogs

    CANNELTON—Cannelton was overmatched by Rock Creek Academy 94-43 in boys basketball Friday.
    The Bulldogs could not contend with Rock Creek’s speed and athleticism as the Lions raced to a 26-9 lead just over four minutes into the game.
    The Lions continued to push the ball and get high percentage looks the entire first half.  They hit 67.6 percent of their field-goal attempts in the first half, including 8 of 11 for 72.7 percent in the second quarter.

    TELL CITY—Evansville Day hit 28 of 31 free throws and beat Tell City 75-68 in boys basketball Friday.

    LINCOLN CITY—Heritage Hills outrebounded Perry Central’s boys basketball team 42-23 en route to a 65-41 win Friday.

  • PC, TC to meet in sectional

    INDIANAPOLIS—Perry Central and Tell City have played two close boys basketball games this year and will meet a third time in the sectional.
    Pairings drawn by the IHSAA Sunday have Perry Central facing Tell City in the first round of a Class 2A sectional at Boonville Tuesday  at approximately 7:10 p.m.
    That will be preceded by Mater Dei taking on South Spencer at 5:30 p.m.
    North Posey and Forest Park drew first-round byes in that six-team sectional.

    JASPER—Greg Clayton placed in the top six in two individual events and two relays to lead Tell City to sixth place in the 11-team IHSAA boys swim sectional Saturday.

  • Columbus Christian beats Bulldogs

    COLUMBUS—Columbus Christian got several fast breaks off Cannelton turnovers and beat the Bulldogs 79-63 in boys basketball Saturday.
    “Transition defense killed us,” said Cannelton Coach Brian Garrett.
    He also said several Bulldog turnovers were careless ones.
    “We do things with the basketball sometimes that astound me. We kill our dribble when we shouldn’t and we’ve got guys who will start a cut and then stop—that leads to turnovers.”

  • Vikings go inside to pull away...

    TELL CITY—North Posey used a strong inside game to pull away from Tell City late in the first half and beat the Marksmen 59-41 in PAC boys basketball Saturday.
    Tell City trailed only 21-18 after Shane Weedman hit 1 of 2 free throws with 1:53 left in the second quarter.
    At that point Tell City had outshot the Vikings from the field 42.9 percent to 35.0 percent.

    LINCOLN CITY—Heritage Hills girls basketball Coach Mike Guth’s resignation was accepted by North Spencer’s School Board last Monday.
    He said, “I’ve really missed out on seeing my son Nathan (age 14) and Caroline (11) play sports.
    “Basketball anymore is a year-round sport—I’m just needing a little break.”
