  • Rebels’ winning state should...

    Some people might think class sports haven’t done Tell City much good, as the only sectionals won by Tell City boys teams in the last 14 years have been in non-class sports (cross country and track).

  • Hayes selected for underclass...

    INDIANAPOLIS—Tell City junior center McKenzie Hayes has been selected to play in the ninth annual girls IBCA/IHSAA Underclass Showcase at Ben Davis High School 2 p.m. July 12.
    Staged by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association with support from the Indiana High School Athletic Association, the Underclass Showcase events are NCAA certified. Each is designed to give exposure to top basketball prospects from across the state to colleges across the state and nation.

  • Gibson Southern sweeps Tell City

    FORT BRANCH—Tell City had a shortage of hits in a Diamond League baseball doubleheader loss to Gibson Southern last Thursday.
    Gibson Southern won the first game 3-2 despite an RBI double by Tell City’s Trent Rainey down the left-field line in the first inning.
    Rhett Baumeister pitched the first 3 2/3 innings for Tell City to take the loss.
    Gibson Southern took advantage of Tell City pitchers’ control problems to win the second game 7-6.

  • Coca-Cola raises record to 8-0

    TELL CITY—Bryce Lain and Jimmy Phillips combined for 11 RBIs as Coca-Cola beat Logos 20-5 Monday to raise its record to 8-0 in the Babe Ruth League.
    Coke clinched at least a tie for the regular-season title with the win.
    Lain went 4 for 5 with six RBIs in the four-inning game. Phillips went 2 for 2 with five RBIs.
    Reed Goffinet went 3 for 4 with two RBIs. Mike Landers also had three hits and Andy Froehlich added two.
    Goffinet also made a strong pitching effort for the win.

  • Goffinet one of USA’s top scorers

    VIENNA, Austria—Tell City graduate Lauren Goffinet was one of the leading scorers for the USA team that competed in the Vienna Cup Pentecost women’s basketball tourney June 11-13.
    The 5-foot-11 Goffinet started every game as the U.S. team went 3-2 in the 16-team tourney.
    The team then played an exhibition game in the Czech Republic against that country’s university team June 14. The USA won that game by 23 points as Goffinet scored 20.

  • Davis champ at Glen Ress Open...

    TELL CITY—Kevin Davis and Mike Wilson shot a 13-under-par 127 to win the Glen Ress Memorial Open golf scramble June 11-12.

  • TC football coach leaves for job...

    TELL CITY—Tell City football coach Travis Atwell submitted his resignation Monday to take a teaching job with Apollo High School in Owensboro, Ky.

  • Summer lap swimming offered...

    TELL CITY – Adult lap swimming, formerly held only during the school year, is being held this summer at Tell City High School’s pool 6-7 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays.

    Cost is $3 per session.

  • Baseball camp scheduled

    TELL CITY – The Tell City baseball camp will be held at Frank Clemens Field June 27 to July 1.

    Ages 9-10 meet 8-10 a.m. each day and ages 11-13 will meet 10 a.m.-noon each day. There is no charge.

    Anyone interested in attending the camp who did not turn in the registration form at school should call Brad Stiles at 719-1697.

  • Gelarden throws no-hitter again

    TELL CITY – No-hitters are rare in slowpitch softball, but Paige Gelarden of Smitty’s Memorial Team threw her second one in as many years in the Tell City Women’s League Tuesday.

    Gelarden faced the minimum nine batters as Smitty’s beat Cinderella’s 20-0 in three innings by the 20-run rule.
