  • Harpenau propels PC past South...

    ELIZABETH - Freshman Andrew Harpenau pitched six strong innings and went 3 for 3 at the plate as Perry Central beat South Central 4-2 in baseball Tuesday.

    Harpenau struck out two, walked two, and gave up two runs as he earned his second win of the season.

    Wes Linette pitched a scoreless seventh inning, striking out one and walking one, for the save.

    Harpenau scored two runs. Teammate Austin Hauser went 2 for 2 and drove in two runs, getting clutch two-out RBI singles in the first and fifth innings.

    His fifth-inning RBI put the Commodores ahead for good.

  • Tell City extends its win streak...

    BOONVILLE - Kyle Osborne drove in three runs with a home run and a double as Tell City beat Boonville 10-6 in baseball Monday.

    The win was the Marksmen's seventh in a row, raising their record to 9-5.

    They shut out Northeast Dubois 6-0 at home Saturday as Cody Pfeifer pitched a three-hitter.

    Tell City had 14 hits against Boonville. Pfeifer went 3 for 4 for the third time in his last four games.

    Osborne, Ryan Zuelly, Eric Henrickson and Michael DuPre each added two hits.

  • Marksmen defeat Rebels with best...

    TELL CITY - Tell City shot its best nine-hole round of the season as it beat South Spencer 171-177 in boys golf Tuesday.

    That was eight strokes better than the Marksmen's previous best this year and seven strokes better than their best last season.

    Ian Reed shot a 4-over-par 39 for medalist honors. He birdied the par-3, No. 3 hole.

    Victor Schutzius shot a 41 for his best round of the season.

    Other Tell City scorers were Corey Young with a 45 and Logan Bolin 46.

    Alex Cole, who shot a 49, and Adam Ramsey, 57, also played for the Marksmen.

  • Boonville holds off Tell City

    TELL CITY - Tell City dominated No. 1 and 2 singles but lost to Boonville 3-2 in girls tennis Thursday.

    Kathi Kassen defeated Ginny Wright 6-0, 6-1 in No. 1 singles.

    Bethany Peter beat Marissa Hodges 6-1, 6-1 in No. 2.

    Stephani Wrye played a close first set in No. 3 singles before losing to Sarah Foley 6-4, 6-2.

    Boonville also won both doubles matches.

    Erika Katterjohn and Chloe Likping beat Alisha Patton and Trish Solbrig 6-2, 6-4 in No. 1 doubles.

    Fancy Conner and Amy Ward beat Kari Gladish and Jenelle Clausen 6-1, 6-2 in No. 2.

  • Huber sets 200 record as PC 2nd...

    REO - Nick Huber won three events as Perry Central placed second in a four-team boys track meet Wednesday.

    Forest Park won with 98 points. Perry Central scored 68, South Spencer 41, and Tecumseh 21.

    Huber won the 200-meter dash in 22.89 seconds, breaking the school record of 22.9 set by DeWayne Brown in 1989.

    That was the fifth different event in which Huber set a school record in a nine-day span.

  • Pfeifer's grand slam...

    TELL CITY - Cody Pfeifer's fourth-inning grand slam lifted Tell City past Perry Central 9-7 in baseball Wednesday.

    Perry Central had taken a 2-0 first-inning lead on a home run by Bo Gibson and still led 3-1 going into the bottom of the fourth.

    Consecutive singles by Kyle Osborne, Ryan Zuelly, Trent Gunn and Eric Henrickson tied the score, though.

    Andy Chinn followed with a bunt single to load the bases.

    After the next batter struck out, Pfeifer worked the count to 2-2 before blasting a shot over the center-field fence to put the Marksmen up 7-3.

  • Raiders out-putt Tell City for...

    TELL CITY - Tell City made some good drives but had some putting problems in a 169-188 boys golf loss to Southridge Thursday.

    Ian Reed led Tell City with a 7-over-par 42. "He hit the ball very well but had 21 putts," said Tell City Coach Jim Meek.

    Other Tell City scorers were Victor Schutzius with a 45, Corey Young 47, and Logan Bolin 54.

    Jake Roland and Tyler Jennings also played for the Marksmen and each shot 56.

    Southridge's Bryson Bolling was the medalist with a 36.

    Southridge won the junior varsity match 212-227. Alex Cole led Tell City with a 45.

  • Perry Central second in...

    HUNTINGBURG - Travis Goffinet shot a 7-over-par 43 to lead Perry Central to second place in a boys triangular golf match Wednesday.

    Southridge won with 162 strokes. Perry Central shot 189 and South Spencer 199.

    Besides Goffinet, Perry Central scorers were Zach Rogier and Charlie Weatherholt each with a 47 and Zach Graves 52.

    Graves, usually the Commodores' leader, had a little trouble on the fourth hole as he hit two shots in the water.

    Anthony Rennie, who shot a 54, and Blake Kleaving, 56, also played for the Commodores.

  • Corydon shuts out Marksmen

    TELL CITY - Five errors hurt Tell City in a 6-0 girls softball loss to Corydon Wednesday.

    The Panthers, ranked 11th in the state in Class 3A, scored an unearned run in the second inning and two unearned runs in the fifth as they built a 5-0 lead.

    That was more than enough support for Corydon pitcher Jenna Keinsley, who held the Marksmen to two hits--a second-inning single by Kyli Smithson and a sixth-inning single by Sidney Grass.

    Keinsley struck out six and walked one.

  • Schoen no-hits Perry Central 16-0

    LEOPOLD - Lanesville freshman Ashley Schoen threw her second no-hitter in 10 days to beat Perry Central 16-0 in girls softball Wednesday.

    Schoen, who also no-hit New Washington, struck out six and walked none as the Eagles, ranked 12th in the state in Class A, improved to 14-2.

    Two Perry Central batters reached base on errors but neither got past first base.

    Lanesville blasted 15 hits, including four doubles and a triple, in five innings against Perry Central pitchers Abby Preher and Cassie Wilgus.
