  • TC youth sign up for football

    TELL CITY - Tell City will hold youth football leagues for players in second through sixth grade this fall.

    Registration fee is $50 for players in grades 5 and 6, who will play tackle football, and $25 for players in grades 2-4, who will play flag football. The fee is nonrefundable. Registration will be held 9-11 a.m. Aug. 21 in William Tell Elementary's cafeteria. Registration forms are available at the Perry County News office.

  • Tell City to hold girls tourney

    TELL CITY - The Tell City Girls Softball League will sponsor the Rumble on the River fastpitch tourney for ages 8-and-under, 10-U, 12-U and 14-U at its complex on 19th Street Friday through Sunday.

    The tourneys will be machine pitch for 8-U and 10-U and ASA fastpitch rules will apply for 12-U and 14-U. There is a three-game guarantee - two pool games followed by single-elimination. Entry deadline was Monday.

    There will be no gate or parking fees.

    LEOPOLD - Perry Central football parents are once again selling Perry Central football T-shirts, sweatshirts, sleeveless V-necks, hats and visors.

  • TC Football Club shirt sale

    TELL CITY - The Tell City Football club will sell short and long-sleeved T-shirts and hooded and crewneck sweatshirts for the 2010 football season.

    Prices are $13 for short-sleeved T-shirts, $15 for long-sleeved T-shirts, $25 for hoodies and $18 for crewnecks. Two different designs are offered. Pre-orders are due by Thursday with second order deadline of August 19.

  • Commodores rely on leadership to...

    LEOPOLD - When the clock ran out for Perry Central at the end a muddy sectional semi-final loss to North Davies, it was the first time the Commodores would end a football season without a conference or sectional title since 2003.

    Two weeks earlier, a missed extra point was all it took to lift Paoli to an undefeated regular season and PLAC championship and deny Perry Central their sixth consecutive conference title.

  • Schweizer Fest golf tourney set

    TELL CITY - Entries are being accepted for the 36th Schweizer Fest Golf Open to be played at Hoosier Heights Country Club Aug. 14-15.

    Entry fee is $65 for club members and $75 for nonmembers. The fee includes an 18-hole practice round.

    All entrants must be high school graduates or 18 years of age or older.

    Up to 120 golfers will be accepted. A full field will have five flights and a senior division for golfers age 60 and over.

    The tourney started in 1974 and has been held every year since except 1996.

  • Old-timers baseball game Tuesday

    TELL CITY - The annual old-timers baseball game will be held 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Frank Clemens Field as part of the city's celebration of Schweizer Fest.

    Tri-state area baseball players, active or inactive, over age 40 are invited to participate. Registration will begin at 5 p.m. at the field, with batting practice starting at 5:30 p.m. If possible, players are requested to wear the uniforms they wore during their playing days.

    Trophies will be awarded for the longest hit ball, best defensive play and oldest participant.

  • Fall baseball registration set

    FERDINAND - The sixth annual Southern Indiana Spikes Fall Baseball League will hold registration today from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Perry County time at the Fifth Street park.

    Individual players and teams are invited. Games will be on weekends. All games are doubleheaders. Participants should be ages 6 to 14. Call Keith Waninger at (812) 630-4583 if there are any questions.
