I've never counted myself a member of the animal-rights movement. I grew up on a farm caring for animals destined for the dinner table. I support farmers' right to raise animals for human consumption.

“Iron Man” was a bit of a surprise for me when it came out in 2008.  I’ve always been more of an X-Men and Batman fan, so I went to check it out with fairly low expectations.  When I walked out of the theater I had become a fan of Tony Stark. The first movie had plenty of action, wit and fun. Most importantly, “Iron Man” was a film that featured a near-perfect performance from Robert Downey Jr. and it was a film that didn’t take itself too seriously. I’m happy to say that all of the above applies to “Iron Man 2.”

I just read the April 26 editorial regarding last year's attempt to raise taxes for school renovation and repair. Your paper stated people should have solid reasons for opposing the referendum. No new taxes is reason enough, but there are others.  Your article also stated no one openly opposed the referendum. I opposed it in writing in this paper. Incidentally, my article received many supporting comments.  This year, 55 percent of my property tax bill is for school funding. The school tax increased 23.35 percent from 2009 to 2010.

When considering relocating to Tell City for my job, we looked at as much information as we could find on the Internet about the area.

Comic-book movies are a dime a dozen these days, but "Kick-Ass" is a bit different. It's a comic book movie that acknowledges comic books. The self-referential factor allows the film to be much funnier than its typically serious counterparts.

This doesn't mean "Kick-Ass" is a flat-out comedy. It still features plenty of vicious action and extreme vulgarity, and I loved every minute of it.

"Kick-Ass" is about Dave Lizewski, a comic-book reading high-school kid who dares to ask, "Why hasn't anyone ever tried to be a superhero?"

A friend of mine recently lost his mother rather unexpectedly. He's coping as well as can be expected, sorting through the inevitable and understandable feelings of loss. He describes an emptiness in his life, even though he lived hundreds of miles away from her and saw her only on holidays and summer vacation.

He also describes heavy feelings of regret.

"What kind of regrets?" I asked him during a phone conversation, thinking he was talking about not spending as much time as he liked with his mom or not saying "I love you enough."
