    Little Miss category ages 7-9 – Miss Photogenic, Madison Moore; second runner-up, Lydia Cook; first runner-up, Katie Lindsey and queen, Hayley Wroe.
    Miss Pre-Teen category ages 10-12 – Miss Photogenic, Haylea Crandall; second runner-up, Maddie Gray; first runner-up, Matie Robertson and queen Haylea Crandall.

    TELL CITY – The Perry County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary will hold its annual holiday bazaar from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. today. There will also be a silent auction.
    Several items are up for bid and include a one-night stay for two, a spa session for two and cafe breakfast for two at the West Baden Inn, two one-day passes to Holiday World and Splashin’ Safari, a C & S gas card, a Christmas wreath, a certificate for one dessert each month for one year beginning in January 2013, a necklace and a Longaberger Christmas plate.

    William Tell Elementary students wore hats Oct. 12 to honor fellow kindergarten student Alexis Dalton, who has acute lymphoblastic leukemia, and who is “a picture of determination and stamina,” according to students and staff.

  • LaGrange family reunion draws large...

    BRISTOW – The LaGrange family reunion was held Sept. 22 at St. Isidore Catholic Church parish hall in Bristow. A pitch-in meal was enjoyed by all those who attended. Those who were present were the descendants of Louis and Sally LaGrange.
    There was a memory table set up and also a crafts table for the children. Music was provided by Justin LaGrange and Tim James. The half-pot drawings were won by Rosemary LaGrange and Joe LaGrange.

    DERBY – The King family reunion was held Sept. 30 at Twin Lakes Cedar Cabins with 61 family members in attendance.
    Fish, chicken and potatoes were provided fort he meal with families taking covered dishes.
    Attending were the descendants of Lonnie Richard and Susie Clara (Sanders) King.

    McCoy earns president’s volunteer...

    PERRY COUNTY – Bethany McCoy, 9, earned the president’s volunteer service award for volunteering 50 hours in the community.

    She helped at local food pantries, The Clothing Closet and The Table of Blessings as well as nine hours working at the Little Warriors benefit in March.  

    She is the only Girl Scout in Perry County to receive this honor, one of only a few in the Girl Scouts of Southwest Indiana Council region and the only one in her age group.  

  • Free adult-ed classes begin Friday

    TELL CITY – Free adult-education classes offered by WorkOne Southwest will begin Friday at the Ivy Tech Campus in Tell City.

    Those participating in the classes will be able to improve math and English skills, add a GED to their resumes, prepare for post-secondary training, pursue WorkIn certification in locally in-demand fields and increase wage earning potential.

    TELL CITY – Students at Tell City Junior-Senior High School will receive grade cards and parent-teacher conference information today.

    Parent-teacher conferences will be held from 4 until 7:45 p.m. Thursday, which will be a full day of school for students. School will not be in session Friday or Oct. 29 due to fall break.

    Appointments will not be scheduled, and conferences will be held on a first-come basis; however, it is important the teachers know which parents plan to attend so they can be prepared for the conferences.

  • Veterans Day celebration at Tell...

    TELL CITY – The Tell City Junior-Senior High School will host a celebration to honor local veterans at 8 a.m. Nov. 12.

    A free breakfast will be offered to all veterans. Parking will be available in the Fulton Street parking lot. Those attending are asked to RSVP by Nov. 5 by calling 547-3131.

    PERRY COUNTY – The American Cancer Society is seeking volunteers in Perry County to recruit fundraising teams, garner community support, coordinate logistics, plan entertainment and lend a hand to ensure the success of the 2013 Relay For Life event. Cancer survivors, caregivers, community leaders and anyone wanting to make a difference are invited to participate.
