TELL CITY – Mu Gamma Sorority is taking orders for its annual cheeseball sales. Two kinds of cheeseballs being sold are Old English and “Holiday.”
The Old English is a blend of smooth mild cheddar cheeses and “Holiday” is made with green peppers, onions and pineapple.  
Cost is $7. They will be made Dec. 15.
If you are interested in ordering a cheeseball, contact any sorority member or call Susan Harpenau at 547-6560.
 

PERRY COUNTY – The Perry County Coon Club will hold its Christmas party Saturday at the coon club.
This party is for members and club volunteers only. A meal will be served at 6 p.m. and karaoke will begin at 7 p.m. Anyone who plans to attend is asked to take a covered dish.

PERRY COUNTY – There is still time for students in primary and secondary schools, both public and private in grades kindergarten through 12, to design a poster for the 24th annual River Sweep 2013.
Fifteen prizes will be awarded. The grand prize is $500, and the school representing the grand prize winner will also receive an award. A prize of $500 will be presented to the student with the winning design for the official River Sweep T-shirt. Thirteen $50 prizes will be awarded to one winner at each grade level.

PERRY COUNTY – Epsilon Omega Chapter of Kappa Kappa Kappa has added nine new prints to its collection of historic landmarks in Perry County, which the group are selling to the public.

Most of the prints were drawn by the residents in the Purposeful Living United Service program at the Branchville Correctional Facility. The Cotton Mill, Cannelton High School, the old Cannelton courthouse, the old Rome courthouse and the Celtic Cross are depicted in the new prints.

TELL CITY – The Perry County Public Library – Tell City branch will host a Christmas story time and caroling experience for all the young at heart from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Tell City native and professional singer and performer Lisa Lawalin McTighe will lead caroling with traditional classic Christmas carols. There will also be a special Christmas story and craft session.
The public is welcome to join the library staff for this Christmas sing-a-ling-a-ling story time and caroling. The program is free to all.

PERRY COUNTY – Daisy Girl Scout Troop 503 is collecting donations of personal-care items to aid families of the area.
Items being accepted include shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, hairbrushes, combs, soap and baby items.  Trial sized or full sized donations are welcome.  Items may be dropped off now through Dec. 7 at The Perry County News office located at 537 Main Street or at Gladish Chiropractic Clinic located at 1430 Main Street.  

TELL CITY – Laurie Dinkel, an associate of the Tell City Regional Arts Association, conducted a poetry reading Nov. 9 at the Tell City Star Café on Main Street in Tell City. A few of the poems read at the meeting were written by Doris Yvonne Burst in honor of veterans and were well received, according to those attending. The next meeting will be in March; look for details in the Perry County News. Below are a few of Burst’s poems read Nov. 9.

PERRY COUNTY – Effective Nov. 19, Indiana Social Security offices will be open to the public Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. – a reduction of 30 minutes each weekday. In addition, beginning Jan. 2, offices will close to the public at noon every Wednesday.

JASPER – Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center’s medical staff will award a $500 scholarship to an area high-school senior entering a two- to four-year educational program in a health-related field.  
To qualify, the applicant must maintain at least a “B” (3.0 on a 4.0 grading scale) grade point average. Other criteria for consideration include SAT scores, financial need and community involvement. A brief essay is required along with letters of reference.
