    CANNELTON – There will be a Bulldog Booster Club meeting at 5:15 p.m. today at the Education Center in the lower level of the old gym in Cannelton.

  • 2010 fall tour events

    A number of autumn activities are planned for the 2010 Perry County Hoosier Heritage Fall Tour. The annual celebration of fall will again draw visitors to communities across the county each weekend through mid-October.

    Marvin and Norma Rogier

    Marvin and Norma Jean Rogier of Tell City will celebrate their 50th wedding an-niversary, Friday, Sept. 17, 2010.
    Mr. Rogier married the former Norma Solbrig Sept. 17, 1960, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Leopold. The Rev. Raymond Moll of-ficiated.
    The couple has two children, Greg Rogier of Tell City and Marty Rogier of Leopold. They also have five grandchildren, Zachary, Ab-by, Trent and Troy Rogier and the late Amber Rogier.
    Mr. Rogier is a retired boilermaker and Mrs. Rogier is retired from the county auditor’s office.

  • Birth Announcements, Sept. 16

    Noah Thomas Shearn
    Carrie and Eric Shearn of Tell City announce the birth of their son, Noah Thomas Shearn, Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010, at The Women’s Hospital in Newburgh.
    The infant weighed 8 pounds, 3 ounces and was 21 inches long.
    Mrs. Shearn in the former Carrie McCallister. Noah has one older sibling, Taylor, 9.

    Healing services at Chestnut Grove Church
    TELL CITY – The Rev. Matthew Ervin from Bee’s Spring, Ky., will perform healing services at 6 p.m. Sunday at Chestnut Grove Church in Tell City.

  • Tell City-English CCC Camp 2853...

    • From July to December 1935, the company collected 5 tons of seeds from 15 species of trees to send to the Forest Service nursery at Vallonia.  

    • Fourteen buildings and three lookout towers were constructed.

    • Seventy-five miles of telephone line from Paoli to English with branch lines to Spears Tower, Orange County Tower, West Fork Tower, Marchand Tower, Buzzard Roost Tower, the rock quarry and the two CCC camps, and then on to Tell City was built with poles creosoted at the English Camp. The job took 2,884 man days.

    The heart and soul of many communities is seated in their churches.  Tell City is no exception. Aside from the numerous publications and formal papers located in the Tell City Historical Society’s museum files describing Tell City’s worship history, an entire section is dedicated to artifacts pertaining to early religious practices of Tell City’s settlers.

    Local police officers and sheriff’s deputies gathered recently at the former Tell City Junior School practice field for a refresher course on making traffic stops.

    Free on the inside

    A tent revival behind the razor wires of Branchville Correctional Facility stirred the spirits of hundreds of men incarcerated there. The facility was the first correctional facility in the state to sponsor a tent revival last year and another complex has adopted the idea.

    Staff and more than 50 volunteers helped organize and facilitate the series of sermons, music, personal testimonials and inspirational speakers. Each of the 13 sessions promoted a positive message, the facility’s chaplains said.

    Blacksmith shop added to Shubael...

    There's something entirely different to see at the Shubael Little Pioneer Village this year. A stone and brick forge believed to have been built around the time of the Civil War has been taken down, moved and rebuilt to working condition. It will be on display during an October open house. The newly constructed blacksmith shop, built of old barnwood and timbers, is based on the design of the structure in which the forge was located for some 150 years.

    Courthouse memorial honors public...

    TELL CITY - Tears mingled with gently falling raindrops July 31 as family, friends and co-workers dedicated a courthouse memorial to two public servants.


    Doris Davis and Kenny Blinzinger lost battles to cancer in 2009. Davis was serving as county clerk while Blinzinger worked for more than 30 years as a sheriff's deputy.
