  • NEW BOSTON – A rummage sale Thursday (today) through Saturday at St. John’s Lutheran Church will benefit SonShine Early Learning Ministry. Hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Friday and 7 a.m. to noon Saturday. Everything is inside so the sale is a go, rain or shine.
    Everything will be half price Saturday. There will also be soup, bread and other baked goods and homemade pies for sale.

  • TELL CITY – The Perry County Chamber of Commerce will conduct a ribbon-cutting for the JC Penney Catalog Store at 10 a.m. Monday, May 16. The ribbon-cutting will be held to celebrate the purchase and relocation of the store. The open house will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. the same day. The JC Penney Catalog store is moving to the Dauby Hardware location. The owner is Debbie Ramsey.

  • BRANCHVILLE – The Branchville Conservation Club house will host several events in May.
    Go-cart racing is planned for May 14. Registration begins at 3 p.m. followed by qualifying. Racing starts at 5 in the club arena. Entry fee is $25. Refreshments will be available.

  • PERRY COUNTY – Catholic Charities is conducting a Mother’s Day appeal to benefit its Matrix Lifeline Program.
    Matrix Lifeline assists pregnant women and women with babies. The program offers assistance with diapers, formula, baby beds and maternity and baby clothes for children up to the age of 2. Donations of formula, diapers and baby wipes will be appreciated. Items can be dropped off at Catholic Charities at 802 Ninth St. in Tell City.   • Tell City Knights of Columbus Council 1172 served its traditional soup Saturday, generating lines of fans in front of the council home on Tell Street. Just more than a kettle was left by early afternoon. Grilled-chicken dinners were also served as part of the yearly fundraiser.
     

  • CANNELTON – 2012 will mark the 175th year of Cannelton’s incorporation as a city. To celebrate this momentous occasion, the Cannelton Foundation is planning an organizational meeting for anyone interested in serving on the planning committee at 6 p.m. May 17, in the Cannelton City Council chambers.
    Volunteers will help plan activities and special events for the 175th birthday of Cannelton.
    The celebration will be centered around the annual Heritage Festival Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012.

  • TELL CITY – On April 19, the Tell City-Perry County Public Library Young Adult Department hosted its second Story Mania Read-Aloud featuring the winners of the Story Mania short story writing contest.

    Guidelines were taken to all area junior and senior high schools at the beginning of January and teens in seventh through 12th grades were invited to write short stories for the contest.

  • Tell City American Legion Post 213 donated a new flag pole to be placed in Sunset Park in Tell City. The pole was raised April 4. Mulzers Crushed Stone donated the concrete needed to secure the pole and the Tell City Street Department donated time and labor to hoist the pole with the American Flag.

  • TELL CITY – The fourth annual Charlie Tuggle Poker Run is set for Saturday, with Braunie’s Bar in Tell City hosting the event.
    All bikes are due out by 11 a.m. and due in by 4:30 p.m. All vehicles are welcome.
    Entry is $10 per hand or $15 per double. There will be door prizes, half pot and food. All proceeds will go to Schreiber Family Charities and Shriners Hospital for Children.

  • TELL CITY – The Tell City-Perry County Public Library is celebrating National Children’s Book Week, Monday through Saturday, May 7. National Children’s Book Week is a special opportunity for libraries all across the country to promote the joy of reading to kids.

  • TELL CITY – A yard sale and bake sale will be held Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at American Legion Post 213 in Tell City.
    The American Legion Ladies Auxiliary will sponsor the sales. Proceeds are to be used locally to benefit veterans.
    Anyone wishing to donate items may bring them to the American Legion Post 213 during the regular business hours on or before Thursday.

  • FULDA – The Fulda Sportsman Club will host its second annual craft show at the club Saturday, May 21 from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.
    New events this year will be a car show and cornhole tournament. Registration for the car show will be from 7 a.m. until noon with prizes to be awarded in various classes. Other entertainment will be a Kiddie Tractor pull beginning at 11 a.m.
    Breakfast, barbecued chicken and pork-chop dinners, burgers and drinks will be available throughout the day.

  • Cannelton Booster Club to meet today at Lawson’s
    CANNELTON – The Cannelton Booster Club will hold an information meeting for all members at 3:30 p.m. today.
    The meeting will be at Lawson’s Bar & Grill in the family dining room.

  • Maurices to hold bake sale
    TELL CITY – The Maurices Relay for Life team will hold a bake sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the store in Tell City.

  • PERRY COUNTY – The annual medicine cabinet clean out day has been set for April 30 from 8 a.m. to noon throughout Perry County.
    The two locations for drop outs will be at the Tell City Fire Department in Tell City and the Perry County Family Practice in Leopold.

  • TELL CITY – The annual Farm Toy Show and Farm Scene Display contest, sponsored by the Perry County 4-H Fairgrounds Committee, will be held Saturday at the fairgrounds. The event will be held inconjuction with an annual consignment auction. All money raised will benefit the 4H fairgrounds.
    Doors will be open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and admission is $1 per person; children 6 years old and under get in for free .Winners of a farm scene-contest will be announced at 2 p.m. the day of the show.
