REO—Sydney Goffinet and Brooke Litherland drove in runs in the eighth inning to lift Perry Central past South Spencer 4-3 in girls softball Thursday.
Perry Central scored a run in the seventh to tie the score 2-2 and Hannah Edwards led off the eighth inning with a single.
Heather Hendricks sacrificed her to second and Goffinet hit a double to drive her home.
Goffinet then scored on Brooke Litherland’s single to right. That proved to be the decisive run, as South Spencer scored once in the bottom of the eighth.

TELL CITY – Haley Ward is a recipient of a 2013 Moose International R. Robert Dale Scholarship in the amount of $1,000. Ward will graduate from Tell City Junior-Senior High School May 24.

An R. Robert Dale Scholarship winners must be the child or grandchild of – or under legal guardianship of – a member of the Moose fraternal organization and must carry at least a 2.5 accumulated grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.

LEOPOLD—Even without injured star Alex Newton, Perry Central dominated the distance races to win the PLAC boys track meet Friday for the eighth year in a row.
Perry Central scored 155 points, 72 more than runner-up Crawford County, for its largest margin of victory ever.
Newton won the 3200-meter run the last two years but suffered a small tear of the plantar ligament in his foot May 3 and did not compete Friday, though he plans to try to run in the sectional Thursday.

Mark your calendars and make plans to join us for the 2013 Ohio River Sweep. This event will be held Saturday, June 15, from 9 a.m. until noon at Sunset Park in Tell City and at Hafele Park in Cannelton.

The Ohio River Sweep is a riverbank cleanup that extends the entire length of the Ohio River and beyond. More than 3,000 miles of shoreline will be combed for trash and debris. This is the largest environmental event of its kind and encompasses six states.
