Hydrant flushing begins Tuesday...

PERRY COUNTY – The Tell City Water Department will begin flushing hydrants Tuesday. Crews will begin working along Fourth Street near the floodwall and will work eastward through the city.

Troy Water Utility will flush hydrants Thursday and Friday.

Residents may notice low pressure and water discoloration when flushing is under way in their areas and should exercise caution when doing laundry.

Girl Scouts honor Perry County girls at awards event
 EVANSVILLE – Girl Scouts of Southwest Indiana recognized the achievements and contributions of its members in 2012-13 at its annual Girl Awards Event, held recently at the Scottish Rite in Evansville.
Dakota Henderson, Brittany Brumfield and Amber Schulthise, all of Tell City, received 10-Year membership pins. Sarah Allen of Derby and Katie Fuchs of Tell City were recognized as graduating seniors.

INDOT awards contract for work...

DUBOIS COUNTY – Construction will soon begin at a busy intersection in Dubois County. The Indiana Department of Transportation recently awarded a contract to improve the intersection of Indiana 64 and Indiana 162 in Bretzville.
Lutgring Brothers Inc. of Tell City was the low bidder on the $1 million contract, which adds dedicated left turn lanes for north- and south-bound traffic on Indiana 162 as well as a traffic signal.

If only the driver had seen the turtle sooner. I was driving to Rockport last week when I saw a car crush and kill a box turtle. I saw the passenger reach over and thump the driver in the head, not violently, but certainly in protest to what had happened.

Local residents graduate from...

EVANSVILLE – The University of Evansville announced that multiple local students graduated during UE’s 155th commencement held May 4 at the Ford Center in downtown Evansville.
During the ceremony, the university awarded 595 degrees to 579 graduates – the largest graduating class in over a decade.
