Pick Perry Days begin Friday

PERRY COUNTY – Perry Countians are invited to don Pick Perry shirts later this month to help build community spirit and promote Perry County as a great place to live, work and visit.

The community-wide expression of promotion for Perry County is set for Friday, April 20. Residents are encouraged to wear the shirts that day. Those who share photos on social media are eligible to win prizes. Shirts are available at several locations, including the Tell City Depot, Domestic Goddess, Celebrations, Skinsations and the Derby Market. T-shirts are $15.

CANNELTON – Hoping not to relive last year when it was one of the few communities that didn’t receive money from the state’s Community Crossings Grant program, Cannelton leaders are hiring outside help to ensure they get the increased road funding this fall.

Templin charged with escape

TELL CITY – David Templin, the Tell City man arrested in March for allegedly impersonating a first responder and who subsequently filed as an independent candidate for county sheriff, is behind bars once more.

Templin was arrested in Jasper Tuesday after allegedly removing the GPS anklet that he was ordered by Perry County Community Corrections to wear when released on the first set of charges, which included impersonating a public servant, resisting law enforcement, obstructing medical personnel and illegal possession of a police radio.

TELL CITY – Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction Jennifer McCormick told educators, business leaders and others last week not to expect large-scale changes in how the state funds public schools.

She spoke last Monday at a luncheon at the Tell City Depot hosted by chambers of commerce in Perry and Spencer counties.

School districts are funded, in large part, on a formula based on how many students they have enrolled.
