Cannelton American Legion Post 142’s miniature cannon fired with full force on Memorial Day as the post’s veterans honored their dead brethren in cemeteries across Perry County. Among those close to many hearts and minds was one of their own, Pat Bunner, who died Dec. 22 at the age of only 43. 

Police rule deaths murder-suicide

GATCHEL – State police said two people found dead inside a rural Perry County home Monday evening were victims of a murder-suicide.

According to Indiana State Police, Franklin Anthony Kirk, 47, shot and killed his 64-year-old mother, Elaine S. Kirk, at their residence at 13340 Mason Drive.

Franklin Kirk then took his own life.

A handgun was recovered at the scene, police said.

Mullis – Schaeffer

Aundrea Marie Mullis of Santa Claus and Eric Robert Schaeffer of Birdseye announce their engagement and approaching marriage.

The bride-elect is the daughter of Darrell and Marlene Mullis of Santa Claus. She is a 2010 graduate of Heritage Hills High School and a 2010 graduate of Southern Indiana School of Therapeutic Touch.
She works at the Wellness Center in Huntingburg.
Mr. Schaeffer is the son of Jeff and Ann Schaeffer of Birdseye. He is a 2006 graduate of Perry Central High School. He works at Mullis Custom Homes in Santa Claus.

Dupont – Kempf

Breanna Dupont and Jeremy Kempf were united in marriage during an afternoon ceremony Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at St. Pius Catholic Church in Troy.

The bride is the daughter of Frank and Rebecca Dupont of Tell City. Mr. Kempf is the son of Michael and Joanie Howland of Tell City and the late Allen Kempf.
The bride was given in marriage by her father in the double-ring ceremony officiated by the Rev. Sengole Thomas.

Jerden – Burris

Dr. and Mrs. Eric Burris of Tell City announce the engagement of their son, Adam Burris, to Leah Jerden, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Jerden of Bloomington.

The bride-elect and Mr. Burris are graduates of Indiana University. Mr. Burris is employed with PeopleMatter as an account executive.
The bride-elect is a communications assistant for Kiawah Island Community Association.
An October wedding in Charleston, S.C., is planned.

PERRY COUNTY – There is seldom a week that goes by without local police officers receiving a call about a scam. Many times, the person on the receiving end of the attempted fraud is smart enough to hang up the phone, throw away the e-mail or tear up the bogus check accompanying a surprise rebate or lottery winning.
