Perry Central girls win relays

DUBOIS—Perry Central won six events to win Northeast Dubois’ six-team girls track relay meet Friday.
The Commodores scored 132 points, five more than runner-up Northeast Dubois.
Ashley Gengelbach and Sarah Spires won the high jump relay with a combined height of 9 feet, 4 inches.
Gengelbach, Amber Lindauer, Allison Parker and Hannah Harpenau won the shuttle hurdles relay in 1:15.
Cathryn Peter, Lindauer, Grace James and Marie Schwartz won the 3200 relay in 11:04.
Peter won the only individual event, the 1600 run, in 5:36.

PC belts Blackhawks

FRENCH LICK—Tanner Cassidy struck out 10 and walked none as he pitched Perry Central past Springs Valley 5-1 in PLAC baseball Wednesday.
Cassidy scattered five hits—all singles.
“He threw a really good game,” said Perry Central Coach Phil Zellers. “And we had no errors. Overall it was probably our most solid performance of the season.”
Perry Central also had only five hits. But they included doubles by Cassidy and Zach Wright and a two-RBI single by Austin Linne in the sixth inning.

TC girls 2nd in tri-meet

TELL CITY—Logan Flannagan won both hurdles races to lead Tell City to second place in a three-team girls track meet Thursday.
Jasper won with 116 points. Tell City scored 32 and Boonville 18.
Flannagan won the 100-meter hurdles in 16.82 seconds and the 300s in 48.6.
She placed second in the high jump at 5 feet, 1 inch.
Hannah Schaefer placed second in the long jump at 13 feet, 11 inches and Kassidie Hayes was second in the shot put with a 32-foot-4 throw.

PC overpowers Bulldogs twice

LEOPOLD—Brittany Parker drove in four runs as Perry Central beat Cannelton 25-4 in the first game of a girls softball doubleheader Thursday.
Autumn Lain had four hits and Madison Guillaume drove in five runs as Perry Central won the second game 17-4.
Perry Central had 13 hits in the first game, including three double, three triples, and an inside-the-park home run by Parker.
But the Commodores also benefited from 14 walks and eight Cannelton errors.

Marksmen jump on Washington early

TELL CITY—Tell City scored 10 runs in the first two innings en route to a 14-4 baseball win over Washington Friday.
The Marksmen’s offense has been strong all year, as they are averaging 8.4 runs per game.
But “the big thing is we’ve now had four consecutive nicely pitched games,” said Tell City Coach Jason Wilkerson.
The Marksmen lost some high scoring games early because their pitchers had trouble throwing strikes. But Rhett Baumeister struck out seven and walked only three as he pitched a complete game for the win Friday.

Bulldogs beat Grace

NORTONVILLE, Ky.—Bryce Garrett pitched a one-hitter as Cannelton beat Grace 12-1 in baseball Thursday.
Garrett struck out nine and walked three.
“Bryce threw pretty well—he threw strikes,” said Cannelton Coach Mike Garrett.
Cannelton led only 2-0 going into the fifth inning but then exploded for 10 runs.
“The first four innings we really struggled (hitting),” said Mike Garrett.
“Then we loaded the bases in the fifth and they changed pitchers, and the second guy didn’t throw as hard.”

PC slugs Lanesville 6-2

LANESVILLE—Sydney Goffinet and Brittany Parker hit home runs over the fence as Perry Central defeated Lanesville 6-2 in girls softball Wednesday.
Goffinet drove in three runs, including two with her third homer of the season over the right-center-field fence in the fifth inning.
Parker hit a solo homer, her first ever over the fence, in the second inning.
She, Morgan Richardson and Heather Hendricks each had two of Perry Central’s nine hits.

Corydon shuts out Tell City

CORYDON—Tell City cut its errors but remained offensively challenged in an 11-0 girls softball loss to Corydon Wednesday.
The Marksmen committed just two errors, their lowest total in their last seven games.
But they had only two hits as they were shut out for the ninth time in their last 13 games.
Infield singles by Stori Beard and Sydney Goffinet were the Marksmen’s only hits.
But they struck out only four times.
Bailey Sandage pitched the first 3 1/3 innings for Tell City to take the loss. She walked four and struck out two.

Boonville edges Marksmen 3-2

BOONVILLE—Tell City won two singles matches but lost to Boonville 3-2 in girls tennis Thursday.
Cassie Bryant beat Macy Dimmett 6-2, 6-0 in No. 2 singles and Kelsey Gowers defeated Kailey Koop 6-1, 6-0 for the Marksmen’s victories.
“Cassie and Kelsey played very well,” said Tell City Coach Nick Weyer.
Boonville’s Mired Bontigui defeated Addie Peter 6-2, 6-3 in No. 1 singles.
The Pioneers also won both doubles matches. Abi Gober and Ashley Johnson beat Megan Teague and Mercedes Mendez 6-4, 6-1 in No. 1.

Haag – Hahus

Krystle Haag and Leonard Hahus of Leopold announce their engagement and approaching marriage.

The bride-elect is the daughter of Kimberly Haag (Ziegelgruber) of Fishers and Anthony Haag of Martinsville.
She is a 2004 graduate of Jasper High School and a May 2013 graduate of Indiana University School of Medicine with a doctorate degree.
She will begin a pediatric residency program in Springfield, Ill., in June.
