Panthers finish with 29 wins

TELL CITY—The Tell City Panthers compiled a .371 team batting average to end their junior high girls softball season with a 29-6-1 record.
Coach Maggie Schuetter said she is very proud of the effort the girls displayed this year, beginning with preseason workouts and continuing through the 36-game season.

City pushes for demolition of Heck building

CANNELTON – Cannelton Common Council members voted unanimously in a special meeting May 28 to continue to press Carolyn Barr to tear down the former Heck building and to seek fines they previously imposed upon her.

Tell City Panthers win Seymour tourney

SEYMOUR — Morgan Schuetter led the Tell City Panthers in hits, RBIs and runs scored as they won the Thunder Classic age-14-and-under girls softball tourney last weekend.

The Panthers won three of four pool games. They beat Seymour 14-2 but then committed three errors in the first inning as they lost to Indiana Tomahawks 8-3.

They rebounded to beat Edgewood Fire & Ice 13-3 and Southern Indiana Crushers 6-5 to earn the No. 2 seed for the single-elimination bracket.

Annual Southern Indiana Power meeting set for June 21

TELL CITY – The community is invited to the 74th annual meeting of Southern Indiana Power June 21 at the Perry County 4-H Fairgrounds in Tell City.
Registration, a meal and activities will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m., followed by a business meeting at 7:30. Each guest is asked to register upon arrival.

Kieser earns dean’s list spot
TELL CITY – Natasha Kieser was named to the fall 2012 and spring 2013 dean’s lists for Ivy Tech College.
She is majoring in early childhood development and is expected to graduate in May 2014.
Kieser is the daughter of Kenny and Susie Kieser and resides in Derby.

OWENSBORO, Ky. – Owensboro Health has purchased Ohio Valley Surgical Specialists, a long-standing provider of surgical services. 

Two monks celebrate anniversaries

SAINT MEINRAD – The Benedictine monks at Saint Meinrad Archabbey celebrated the 25-year jubilee of priesthood ordination for the Rev. Julian Peters OSB, and the 70-year jubilee of priesthood ordination and 75-year jubilee of monastic profession for resigned Archabbot Bonaventure Knaebel OSB, May 26.

Peters is a native of Toledo, Ohio, where he attended St. Francis de Sales High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Saint Meinrad College in 1982 and entered the monastery that year.
