Hydrant flushing begins Tuesday in Tell City

TELL CITY – The Tell City Water Department will begin flushing hydrants Tuesday. Crews will begin working along Fourth Street near the floodwall and will work eastward through the city.
Residents may notice low water pressure when flushing is under way in their areas and should exercise caution when doing laundry.
 

Annual River Sweep set for June 15

SPENCER COUNTY – River Sweep 2013 has been scheduled for June 15 along the shoreline of the Ohio River and its many tributaries. Volunteers are needed for this massive event.
River Sweep is a riverbank cleanup that extends the entire length of the Ohio River and beyond. More than 3,000 miles of shoreline will be combed for trash and debris. This is the largest environmental event of its kind and encompasses six states.

Two teams blast Cannelton

CANNELTON—Cannelton gave up 36 runs in baseball losses to Shoals and Hancock County Friday.
“We were not ready to play at all,” said Cannelton Coach Mike Garrett. “It’s not the way you want to end your season before the sectional, that’s for sure.”
Shoals had 11 hits and drew 10 walks in a 14-4 win.
Larry Holman went 2 for 3 with a home run to lead Cannelton. Tristan Simmons added a double.

Annual Drug, Alcohol Awareness Poster Contest end Friday

PERRY COUNTY – The Perry County prosecutor’s office announces the annual poster contest open to all Perry County students in kindergarten through seventh grades begins Wednesday and ends Friday. Letters have been sent to Tell City, Perry Central and Cannelton schools with the official rules to begin the contest. The office staff have asked schools to choose the four best pos-ters from each grade level and submit them to the prosecutor’s office for judging.

School leaders get advice on building a better board

TELL CITY – The director of board services for the Indiana School Boards Association shared advice gleaned from experience as a trustee and as an advocate of Indiana school boards during an April 23 session with the Tell City-Troy Township School Board.

Girl Scouts honor Perry County girls at awards event
 EVANSVILLE – Girl Scouts of Southwest Indiana recognized the achievements and contributions of its members in 2012-13 at its annual Girl Awards Event, held recently at the Scottish Rite in Evansville.
Dakota Henderson, Brittany Brumfield and Amber Schulthise, all of Tell City, received 10-Year membership pins. Sarah Allen of Derby and Katie Fuchs of Tell City were recognized as graduating seniors.

Annual May Monte Cassino pilgrimages continues Sunday in St. Meinrad

ST. MEINRAD – Saint Meinrad Archabbey’s pilgrimages to honor the Blessed Mother at the Monte Cassino Shrine have been scheduled for the Sundays in May. The pilgrimages begin with an opening hymn and a short sermon, followed by a rosary procession. The service ends with the Litany of the Blessed Virgin and a hymn. \Speakers and topics for the pilgrimages are:
• Sunday – Novice Matthew Sprauer OSB, “Mary, Model of Hospitality”
• May 26 – Novice Bradley Jensen OSB, “Mary, Full of Grace”

Run for your mother . . .

The first Run for Your Mother 5K run-walk was held Mother’s Day in Tell City. The three-mile route started at 8 a.m. in front of the new Tell City visitor’s center and ended on Sunset Park’s Greenway path. Race organizers said 256 runners participated in the event, which they hope to make an annual run. Money raised from the race went to the Perry County Leadership Class of 2013.
