French joins county-council ranks

TELL CITY – A local educator with a family legacy of public service has become the newest face on the county council.
Jody French swore her oath of office Monday morning, accepting the District 4 seat vacated by Alan Cassidy.  French was chosen by Democrat precinct committee members during a caucus Saturday morning, party chairman Dale Groves said.
French is assistant principal at Perry Central High School and is the daughter of the late Don Etienne, who served 12 years as a county commissioner.

Grants available for field trips to state parks and reservoirs

PERRY COUNTY – Educators interested in taking kindergarten through 12th-grade students on field trips to an Indiana state park or reservoir in the 2013-14 school year can receive financial help through a new program of the Indiana Natural Resources Foundation.
The Discovering the Outdoors Field Trip Grant Program is for public, private, parochial or home-school educators.

Denny and Sue Thorn of Cannelton announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Rachel Thorn, to Luke Tudor, son of Robert and Christine Tudor of Tell City.

The bride-elect is a graduate of Tell City High School. She works as a relief aid with the Head Start program.
Mr. Tudor is a graduate of Tell City High School and has a firefighter certification at Tell City Fire Department.

Clayton named Brookshire Moore Superintendent of the Year

HAWESVILLE, Ky.  – Harvey Clayton, machine superintendent of #2PM at Domtar’s Hawesville, Ky., mill, was presented with the 2013 Brookshire Moore Superintendent of the Year award during the Couch Pit University dinner in April.

City needs support letters for sewer-work funding

CANNELTON – Everybody in the city should write a letter, Cannelton Mayor Mary Snyder urged during a public hearing Monday on applying for grant funding to fix city sewer problems.

Warmer weather means more ticks

INDIANAPOLIS – Warm weather is finally arriving in Indiana, but as Hoosiers start taking advantage of the arrival of spring, so are ticks. State health officials are cautioning people to protect themselves from ticks as they spend more time outside.
Ticks are small, insect-like creatures often found in naturally vegetated areas or woodlands throughout Indiana. Ticks can transmit illnesses such as Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever. Last year, Indiana confirmed 63 cases of Lyme disease, two cases of Rocky Mountain spotted fever and 19 cases of Ehrlichiosis.

Taylor – Hildenbrand

Bob and Cindy Taylor of Derby announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Rebecca Kay, to Adam Ryan Hildenbrand, son of Kenneth and Karen Hildenbrand of Mariah Hill.

The bride-elect is a 2010 graduate of Perry Central High School.
She is employed at State Farm Insurance Agency in Tell City.
Mr. Hildenbrand graduated from Heritage Hills High School in 2003. He is employed at Waupaca and is a member of the Carter Fire District.

Correction

Due to incorrect information provided to the News, the name of one of the scholarships Cannelton graduate Allicyn Louise Garrett earned was listed incorrectly. She was a recipient of the Loren and Bernice Lanman Scholarship.
