Ebbinghaus – Houghland

Brianna Marie Ebbinghaus and Jarrod Patrick Houghland of Plainfield announce their engagement and approaching marriage.

The bride-elect is the daughter of Thomas and Kristi Ebbinghaus of Carmel and Robert and Stacia Zloty of Martinsville.
She is a 2001 graduate of Martinsville High School and earned a degree in management and marketing from Lincoln Memorial University. She is employed at Rolls Royce North American Purchasing as an administrative assistant.

TELL CITY – A fire in the Waupaca Foundry dust-collection system caused no serious damage the evening of April 30.

Fire Chief Greg Linne said firefighters were back at the firehouse within two hours.

Dinner honors business achievements

TELL CITY – A growing Perry County-based winery, a fitness facility promoting community-wide wellness and an auto-parts manufacturer whose products are found on nearly every Toyota were honored Tuesday with business awards.

The Perry County Chamber of Commerce held its 12th annual business dinner at the Schergens Center. Awards were given in four categories: large business with more than 25 employees; small businesses with fewer 25 employees and entrepreneurship. An applause award was awarded to a nonprofit group.

EDITORIAL: Social media often reflects the worst of us

The cycle of social-media-aided poor judgment hit our home state recently.

A few weekends back, the Indiana University chapter of the Kappa Delta Sorority threw a homeless-themed costume party at which people dressed up in soiled clothes, rubbed dirt on their faces and brandished cardboard signs containing insensitive remarks. One read, “Why lie, it’s for booze.”

Forms now available for luminary ceremony

PERRY COUNTY – Forms for the annual luminary service during the Perry County Relay for Life are now available.
The service will be held at 9 p.m. June 8 at Perry Central schools during the Relay event. Forms will be available at all German American locations in Tell City and in future issues of the News. They can be returned to Pam Krygielka at 6971 Alamo Road, Tell City, IN 47586. For more information, call Krygielka at 836-2712.
