Schaefer, Marksmen stop Chargers

PETERSBURG—Chris Schaefer pitched a four-hitter as Tell City defeated Pike Central 5-1 in PAC baseball Tuesday.
Schaefer struck out nine and walked none, and his teammates committed only one error.
“He threw a great game,” said Tell City Coach Jason Wilkerson. He was getting ahead (in the count) with his fastball, and he’s learned to throw his curveball in situations for strikes.
“I’ve said it before: When we play a clean baseball game and our pitchers throw strikes, we’re a pretty good team.”

Lauren Braunecker and John A. Blake of Tell City, along with their parents, announce their engagement and approaching marriage.

The bride-elect is the daughter of Mary and Clayton Billings of Tell City and Rick and Kara Braunecker of Tell City.
She is a 2006 graduate of Tell City High School and a 2011 graduate of Western Kentucky University with a bachelor’s degree.
She is a third-grade elementary teacher at William Tell Elementary.

Girls sectional pairings drawn

INDIANAPOLIS—Tell City and Cannelton drew first-round opponents ranked No. 3 in the state in their class in IHSAA girls softball sectional drawings Thursday.
Tell City will play Mater Dei in the first game of a seven-team, Class 2A sectional at Cedar Crest School 6 p.m. Monday, May 20 (all times listed are Perry County times).
The winner of that game will play defending sectional champion South Spencer, which drew the first-round bye, in the semifinals 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 22.

LINCOLN CITY – Auditions for the third annual partnership between two southern Indiana theaters will take place later on this month.
Lincoln Amphitheatre and Evansville Civic Theatre will host two auditions for its partnership in the Broadway classic, “Godspell.”
The first audition will be held at Lincoln Amphitheatre inside Lincoln State Park, 15032 N CR 300 E, at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The second audition will be held at Evansville Civic Theatre, 717 N Fulton Ave., at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

ENGLISH – Karen’s Angels third annual golf scramble against cancer will be held May 11 at the old English Golf Course in English. There will be a shot-gun start at 8 a.m. EDT. The cost includes 18 holes of golf, cart rental and hamburgers.

The cool spring has finally ushered in May flowers. I love cut flowers from the garden. There is a simple, happy satisfaction that comes from picking a bundle of peonies for the kitchen work table. Just be sure to shake the ants off first. The other thing about a cool spring with adequate rainfall is that the weather is acting as a sort of preservative: all those beautiful blooms are lasting much longer than normal.
