Kellems – Sillings

Felicia Kellems of Cannelton and Brandon Sillings of Leavenworth were united in marriage during an afternoon ceremony Saturday, May 11, 2013, in Fulda.

The bride is the daughter of Michele and Eddie Kellems of Cannelton. Mr. Sillings is the son of Scott and Hallie Denise Sillings of Leavenworth.
The bride was given in marriage by her father and mother during the double-ring ceremony officiated by the Rev. Harold Nix.

Jeffries named Gold Star Student

EVANSIVLLE – Davis Jeffries, son of Steve and Cindy Jeffries, was recently named a “2013 Gold Star Student” by the Evansville Courier & Press. 

The annual competition honors Tri-State high school juniors for balancing and excelling in school, employment, extracurricular activities and community endeavors.

Perry Central’s great sports...

Last October I wrote that this could be the best school year ever for Perry Central sports, and that has proven to be the case.
The Commodores have won one regional, four sectionals, and eight of 10 possible conference titles so far.
Three sectional titles and one conference one (boys golf) remain to be decided.
The four sectional titles in one school year are the most for any school in Perry County history.

RSVP plan trip to Mackinac Island

PERRY COUNTY – Lincoln Hills Development Corp.’s Retired and Senior Volunteer Program is presenting a Mackinac Island trip in Michigan through Toby Tours.
During the four-day, three-night trip, guests will take a horse-drawn carriage tour of Mackinac Island, have a grand buffet lunch tat Grand Hotel and have free time to enjoy the Grand’s porch view or meander through town for some shopping and sight seeing.

ST. MEINRAD – Saint Meinrad Archabbey’s pilgrimages to honor the Blessed Mother at the Monte Cassino Shrine have been scheduled for the Sundays in May. The pilgrimages begin with an opening hymn and a short sermon, followed by a rosary procession. The service ends with the Litany of the Blessed Virgin and a hymn. \Speakers and topics for the pilgrimages are:
• Sunday – Novice Matthew Sprauer OSB, “Mary, Model of Hospitality”
• May 26 – Novice Bradley Jensen OSB, “Mary, Full of Grace”

Tell City slugs Rangers

TELL CITY—Spenser Beard had three hits and three RBIs as Tell City beat Forest Park 8-6 in PAC baseball Wednesday.
The win enabled the Marksmen to finish second in the conference at 5-3. Southridge won the title with a 6-2 record.
Beard hit a solo home run in the fifth inning, his first of the year and only the second by the Marksmen this season.
They have displayed gap power, though, with 46 doubles. Casey May, Austin Paulin and Reese Miller each hit one in this game and Trent Zuelly added a triple.

Peter qualifies for state meet

EVANSVILLE—Perry Central senior Cathryn Peter placed third in the 3200-meter run at the girls track regional Tuesday to qualify for the state meet.
Peter set a personal record as she ran the 3200 in 11:46.93, just two seconds from Rachael Rayford’s school record.
The top eight in each event scored but only the top three qualified for the state meet, which will be held 2 p.m. June 1 at Indiana University’s track. The 3200 will start at 7:15 p.m.
Peter, Megan Thomas, Grace James and Marie Schwartz placed fourth in the 3200 relay in 10:13.24.

Raiders edge Tell City

TELL CITY—Southridge scored a run in the seventh inning to edge Tell City 5-4 in a battle of PAC baseball leaders Thursday.
Tell City built a 4-1 lead with four runs in the bottom of the second inning. Gant Miller started that rally with a double.
Trent Rainey, Spenser Beard and Brian Arnold each drove in a run that inning, with the other one scoring on an error.
Two 30-minute lightning delays took away some of the Marksmen’s momentum.

Two teams blast Cannelton

CANNELTON—Cannelton gave up 36 runs in baseball losses to Shoals and Hancock County Friday.
“We were not ready to play at all,” said Cannelton Coach Mike Garrett. “It’s not the way you want to end your season before the sectional, that’s for sure.”
Shoals had 11 hits and drew 10 walks in a 14-4 win.
Larry Holman went 2 for 3 with a home run to lead Cannelton. Tristan Simmons added a double.
