  • LETTER: Become a Junior Achievement volunteer

    Volunteer opportunities exist to assist Junior Achievement programs in Perry County in coming weeks.

    Third-Grade Volunteer Opportunities

    All third-grade classes at Perry Central and William Tell Elementary Schools will participate in the Junior Achievement Our Region program. This program provides an introduction to students about entrepreneurship and how entrepreneurs use resources to produce goods and services in a community. Students solve problems by weighing risks and rewards.

  • LETTER: The nation’s children who might have been

    Four decades ago, on Jan. 22, our Supreme Court voted to legalize abortion. There was an outcry from Americans who realized the sacredness of life in the womb. The outcry was ignored and finally it subsided. A battle had been fought and a victory secured for those who believed babies could be “eliminated” just because they were unwanted.

  • LETTER: Rumble strips needed at intersection

    I am writing in regard to the dangerous intersection at Indiana 37 and Indiana 237.

    Why hasn’t the state put in some rumble strips on Indiana 237? If you are drowsy or on your phone or otherwise not paying attention, you will miss the   flashing yellow light, but two or three sets of rumble strips will certainly get your attention.

    If you go to neighboring counties, you will hit rumble strips before entering a dangerous intersection.

    I feel honored to have met so many in representing our community. These professions are held by some of the best and most noble Hoosiers, and I have diligently worked this session to introduce legislation that supports them.

    I grew up influenced by older people. I saw my grandparents often and worked during my preteen and teenage years for neighbors, many of them seniors.

    Most were farmers and I learned a lot from them. As I get older, it seems I rely more and more on the simple lessons they instilled and the examples they set.
