  • LETTER: Knee replacement requires buddy system

When you have a knee replacement, it should be done on a buddy system. When you say you are tired, the buddy should say do 30 more reps.

I did not have a buddy. I remember we had a six-hour meeting and when I saw all of that metal that would be going into my left knee, I wanted to change my mind. But I had seen my x-ray and my left knee was a mess.

The knee surgery took place and you were to stay at the first hospital for only three days. Actually you were supposed to start exercising the first night.

  • COLUMN: The liberty amendments

    By RICHARD MOURDOCK
    State Treasurer

The 20th and 21st centuries have not been good for Americans who long for the founders’ vision of a limited federal government with checks and balances between its three branches.

Those thoughtful leaders of the 18th century understood that power truly does corrupt and that once corrupted, it is incapable of self-imposed cleansing.

  • COLUMN: Investing in local stocks

    By VINCE LUECKE

Lots of us hoping for brighter futures sock away money in money-market funds, savings and individual retirement accounts and mutual funds. Most of us have financial advisers who help us along the way and over time, most of the time, we’re rewarded with good returns and growing nest eggs.

I’m in that group. My employer – I should say employers considering I have a couple of part-time jobs in addition to self-employed farming – sponsor 401K or 403B accounts and match a portion of what I contribute.

  • EDITORIAL: Late-summer thumbs-up

The conclusion of a successful Schweizer Fest – Tell City’s 55th – prompts us to extend a big thumbs-up to everyone who helped with the effort. That’s a large group, far too numerous for us to try to list individually or even by subgroups. It nearly takes a community to pull off a community festival and Tell City does it every year. Congratulations, everyone.

We also offer the following thumbs-up kudos.

  • LETTER: Shame on the thief who stole from child

I just wanted to say shame, shame, shame on the person who stole money from my daughter and her family, which was in a room with the door closed and should never had anyone been in there to begin with. What happened was it was my granddaughter’s 11th birthday and my daughter had invited people up for that and to watch a ballgame that was playing that day.
