I once heard an interesting story about how one local church pastor, on the occasion of All Souls Day Nov. 2, invited parishioners to gather in the church cemetery for a blessing of graves.

Each person was asked to stand by a grave and a few minutes later, with people standing by the graves of relatives, friends and perhaps complete strangers, parishioners remembered the dead.

  • The cost of higher education is too high

From quite a young age, American kids have the importance of a college education impressed upon them by teachers and family members alike. Many times, these people didn’t go to college themselves and speak from a place of regret for not having attended. Other times, the advice to go to college is from the point of view of someone who has been and who benefited from it.

While there are many things in common with the college experience of generations before and the current college students, there is one glaring difference. The price has skyrocketed.

  • Applying for financial aid easier now

Indiana is home to some of the best colleges and universities in the country. The financial burden of paying for a degree, however, oftentimes puts families in a tough place. Fortunately, there are various forms of financial aid to help offset costs.

  • Please don’t remove my yard signs

Several of my yard signs, including those supporting Trump, local and state candidates, were removed from my private property along highway 70 last night.

  • Economic development never ends

I have read statements made by political candidates who question the value of the Perry County Development Corp. These candidates may not realize but economic development should never end. The value that PCDC brings to Perry County is immeasurable.

  • Benghazi, Clinton and the White House

I chatted with a lady the other day while eating out per the presidential election she stated she didn’t like Donald Trump at all but she couldn’t possibly vote for Hillary Clinton because her son was a Marine citing Clinton’s involvement what happened on 9/11/2012. However the lady went onto say we need a Ronald Reagan now our conversation did end on a pleasant note however I’d like to address all the Republican derangement addressed to Hillary Clinton.

  • Deaconess VNA United Way partnership

On behalf of the Deaconess VNA Plus Board of Directors, staff and most importantly, the patients and families we serve in Perry County, thank you and the United Way of Perry County, for our 2017 allocation.

  • I was nearly killed by semi Thursday

I was almost killed Thursday night when a semi driver ran the stop sign at full speed at the intersection of 237 and 37.

He passed right in front of me. He must have been half asleep or texting because somehow he missed all the flashing lights.

I wonder if the state  should install rumble strips there. Those are impossible to ignore, by even the most distracted of drivers.

If you have had a similar experience, I suggest you contact INDOT. Maybe together we can save a life.
