I want to take this time to let the city leaders of Tell City know what a fine job they are doing to beautify the Fennhaven community.

I was one of the first people to build a home in Fennhaven back in 1954 when Mr. Roy Fenn was selling lots and trying to create a subdivision overlooking the Ohio River.

After my first wife died, I eventually remarried and moved to a different area, but I would always take drives back to Fennhaven to see how things were progressing.

I wish to respond to Mike Gramelspacher’s letter Aug. 20 concerning hearing that Obama is in love with Marxism. Mike would like for us to believe a story told by John Drew about Obama in 1980 when Obama was 16 or 17 years old. Drew claims he flew from New York to see his girlfriend in south Los Angeles, Orange County, Calif., in December 1980. Those of us who follow our national politics recognize Orange County as radical John Birch Society Republicans.

On behalf of the Rome Cemetery Association, we wish to thank William J. Coomer and his wife, Carolyn L. Coomer, for their very generous gift of a large parcel of land to expand the already full Lamb-Rowe local landmark cemetery.

These rural, out-of-the-way cemeteries are often overlooked and almost forgotten. But for the families whose descendants go back centuries and wish to continue their heritage in Perry County, it is important they have the opportunity to do so.

As you may have heard, I have decided to run for Tell City-Troy Township School Board. I’ve been asked why I would want to be a school-board member.

My youngest of three children, all of whom attended Tell City Schools, will graduate from Tell City High School this year. The answer is simple: I care about our community.

My family and I are lifelong residents of Tell City. My wife grew up in Troy and most of her family still resides there. My business, my friends and my future are all connected to Tell City and Troy Township.
