  • Organizers pulled off great Troy reunion

A big thank you to the Troy High School Class of 1954 and the homecoming committee for organizing the Troy School Homecoming held June 21. It was so rewarding to be reunited with many of my classmates, some of whom I have not seen for over 50 years. The program was well planned and organized and enjoyed by all. I look forward to the next homecoming in 2019.

Thanks again for a most memorable day and all your hard work.

    DOTTIE (LITTLE) DOWRICK
    Gainseville, Mo.

  • Attorney general has duty to represent state in same-sex marriage lawsuit appeal

Recent federal court actions that first struck down Indiana’s statute limiting marriage to the traditional definition and then stayed that order pending appeal, have left many in our state in legal limbo.

As the attorney who represents state government and defends its laws, I know this difficult case stirs many people’s deeply held beliefs that touch their lives in very personal ways.

  • Congressman Bucshon’s troubling voting record and the need for bipartisanship

The 113th Congress is, by and large, the least productive Congress in modern history. While millions of Americans struggle to pay their bills, many of the 435 members of Congress who claim to represent the people are making $174,000 a year to essentially do nothing. Unfortunately for the people of Indiana’s 8th District, Congressman Larry Bucshon fits this mold to perfection.

  • Take part in this year’s 4-H livestock auction

I am a member of Gatchel 4-H Club in Perry County and I participate in the swine project. I’m the son of John and Sherry Schraner of Derby.

On Friday, July 11,1 will participate in the Perry County 4-H Livestock Auction. This is a premium only livestock auction for 4-H’ers who have exhibited livestock at the 2014 Perry County 4-H Fair. I would like to invite you to attend and support the 4-H members exhibiting livestock.

I have participated in the swine project for 10 years and I have learned so much in 4-H as I am entering my final year.

  • PC Band Boosters grateful

Perry Central Band Boosters would like to thank all of the individuals and businesses that donated to this year’s auction.

We’d like to extend a special thanks to Scott and Heidi of Dixon and Dixon Auction and Realty for doing such a wonderful job.

  • Division of Forestry to sell timber near Wyandotte Cave, O’Bannon Woods Park

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources Division of Forestry has  announced plans to sell trees adjacent to O’Bannon Woods State Park and near the Wyandotte Cave Complex east of Corydon.

On the morning of  June 26, 2014, 1.3 million board feet of timber and nearly 6,000 trees were sold to private logging companies from five parcels in the Harrison-Crawford State Forest.

  • Teamwork always makes life so much better

The Perry County News continues to an excellent job in covering various sports. Thanks to them.

My time consists of helping disabled military veterans, working music for different occasions, producing a music CD and supporting the mighty tough Perry Central Commodores whenever I get a chance. Let’s continue that great winning tradition.

Thanks to those terrific Perry Central fans. Let’s continue to display good sportsmanship.

  • City should help resident cut off from home

I am writing to comment on the (June 16) letter to the editor from my mother, Mary Hearst. She is very upset over all this and that is not good for a lady of 83 years. It worries me.

It is true I have been talking to the street commissioner for some time about this culvert and the problem we were having with it. At first he had his workers put some blacktop on it but that really didn't do much.  But I guess it did appease us for a while.

  • VFW members grateful for support of Buddy Poppy sales

Members of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2939 and its ladies and mens auxiliaries wish to thank the Perry County community for supporting the 2014 Buddy Poppy program.

The money received from this remains in our community to benefit disabled and in-need veterans and widows of deceased veterans in Perry County.

Also, I'd like to thank the Perry County News for advertising and Nobles IGA, Wal-Mart and Cash Savers Foods for allowing us to distribute our buddy poppies in front of their stores.

    KERRY JAMES
    Commander

  • Colors of Hope 5K run-walk a smashing hit

The second annual Colors of Hope 5K was held Saturday June 7. Perfect weather and a large crowd of runners and walkers helped create a very successful family-fun event hosted by New Directions Health & Fitness Club.

We’d like to thank Teri James and Relay For Life for once again partnering with us. Along with her support and the support of others, we were able to make a sizeable donation to the American Cancer Society once again this year.
