First I have not met you personally. I was raised in Perry County, married a local girl and moved to Paducah, Ky., in 1952, following my work in construction. In 1958 we moved to Pensacola, Fla., again following my work and raising my family here and I remain here now. Most of my family remains in Perry County.

A couple of years ago, I subscribed to The Perry County News and I enjoy reading it but many changes have taken place as well as new names.

Our 67th Annual Fall Festival Oct. 24 enjoyed a tremendous turnout from students, staff and community supporters. Cannelton Elementary’s PTO would like to thank the following individuals and businesses for helping make this year’s annual Fall Festival a huge success. Along with the entire staff and student body of Cannelton Elementary School, we would like to thank Dan Hayden, Amy Knight, Scott Hemmings, Smokey Graves, Scott Hemmings, Margaret Anastasiades, Martha Graves, Arvina Bozarth, Amy Bodeman, Andrea Maffia, Mike Evans, Tori Thomas and Lexy Thomas.

The Humane Society of Perry County is asking for the community’s help to donate used doghouses to those in need.

Each December, the society tries to provide doghouses, but the need is always greater than the supply. We have been fortunate to have a woodcrafter donate time and skill for this endeavor so we can make new houses if possible.

We want to thank everyone who supported our recently held Perry County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Holiday Bazaar by buying baked goods and craft items, making gift-shop purchases or bidding on our silent-auction items, or by just enjoying our turkey-and-dressing luncheon. Also, a special thanks to all the auxiliary members who worked that day, prepared baked items or made something for our craft sale. It takes a lot of members, help from the hospital and the kitchen staff, and the community members who attended to make this a successful event every year.
