  • LETTER: Nation needs to comfort those who suffer

    A few weeks ago my sister told me how her little daughter Addyson was watching “Toy Story” and began to cry during a scene.

    The scene that brought her to tears was when Andy, a young boy who once cherished and loved his favorite toy named Woody, began to grow older. And as Andy grew older the joy and happiness that the toy once brought to him faded away.

  • LETTER: Village’s candlelight tour was a big success

    Shubael Little Pioneer Village would like to thank all the volunteers for their help with the candlelight Tour held Dec. 9. We would also like to thank all visitors for supporting this project. It is our hope that all the visitors had a memorable time at the village.

    We want to thank each you for your donations of food and money that we dispersed between our local area food banks. They were very appreciative of the donations. Thanks again.

  • Editor’s Santa column drew smiles

    I was reading the article written to Santa from our editor. I first passed it to read other parts of the paper.

    As I perused the pages, I found I kept going back to the article. I often read his articles and am quite fond of nearly all of them.

    While reading, I found myself smiling and by story’s end I realized that I had even broken into a full snicker a couple of times. It’s my opinion that this was a well-written, timely and funny article.

  • A big thank you to Rolling Thunder

    On behalf of the Perry County Council on Aging and all those we serve, I would like to thank Rolling Thunder Indiana Chapter 7 for their continued donations, which make our organization able to provide transportation services for our Perry County residents.

    We would also like to thank Evangelical United Church of Christ for the generous donation to our Senior Center. Once again Perry County Council on Aging has received local support from these organizations and it is greatly appreciated.

  • Emergency services great in Perry County

    My husband and I were visiting my family in Tell City when my husband had a heart attack. I was able to get him to the Perry County Memorial Hospital in less than 10 minutes, where they stabilized him during his attack.

    He was then taken by ambulance to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville to undergo a heart-catheterization procedure that will give him a new lease on life.

  • LETTER: Thanks to all for making hospital auxiliary bazaar a success

    We want to thank everyone who supported our recently held Perry County Hospital Auxiliary Holiday Bazaar by buying baked goods and craft items, making gift shop purchases or bidding on our silent auction items, or by just enjoying our turkey and dressing luncheon.

    Also a special thank you to all the auxiliary members who worked that day, prepared baked items, or made something for our craft sale. It takes a lot of members, help from the hospital and the kitchen staff, and the community members who attended to make this a successful event every year.

  • LETTER: State’s surplus could meet some of counties’ needs

    I am writing your newspaper to address an upcoming problem that could affect every citizen in the state of Indiana.

    At this time the nation is approaching a fiscal problem that almost every American is aware of. At the same time our state is sitting on a large surplus, even though they will admit they are not sure how it was acquired.

    But at the same time the counties in our state have had to endure more and more unfunded mandates and the curtailing of certain operations, all in order to make the state look good.

  • LETTER: Fennhaven neighborhood looks better

    We were recently driving around Perry County and noticed some improvements in the Fennhaven area, notably on Riverview Drive.
    The well-kept properties along this street can now be fully appreciated.

    We understand Mayor Ewing and Bob Young were involved in this effort and we offer our thanks along with the homeowners in that area.

  • LETTER: Community provides nutrition for kids

    United Way of Perry County has awarded a generous grant for the 2012-2013 school year to help support the Weekend Food Backpack Program in our county. This program supplies food over the weekend for children who come from homes where food is not always available to them.
