Surely every community has young professionals who are community minded and donate their time and professional talent to local nonprofit groups. Perry County is blessed with several of these.

The purpose of this letter is to acknowledge the contribution of the Lynch Surveying and Engineering  Co. to the Shubael Little Pioneer Village. David (Lynch) has done work for us in the past. Since we operate on a shoestring budget, he has provided services that were essential but unattainable on our budget.

On Friday, July 13, in Roanoke, Va., President Obama took a shot at all of the thousands of America’s successful entrepreneurs. He said, “if you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own.” He went on; “if you’ve got a business - you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.”

I was just reading in our newspaper a letter to the editor. I found this letter talked about a topic that I have thought about a number of times.

Why do I or my grandchildren have to dodge the dog crap in every park, in my own yard or on the greenways?

After all I don’t even have a pet. My neighbors take great care of their dogs. Not one of them come to my yard to do their business.

But, alas, people come from other parts of town on their way to the dog park just to let their dog go in my yard.

The City of Tell City is pleased to invite all area residents to volunteer in downtown Tell City for the first “Downtown Clean Up Day,” to be held from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday, July 27.

Residents, along with merchants and city personnel, are asked to meet in City Hall Park and join together in this promotion of pride in our community.
