    I have been proud to serve the people of Indiana as their elected attorney general, the lawyer for the state of Indiana. Other people, including state officials sometimes disagree with my legal decisions.

  • COLUMN: Put former armory to use

    I am so tired of reading about all the money this county spends for anything other than our youth. A visitors center? Really?

    Our National Guard gave this city a building that holds endless history for this community. So what is the city doing with it?

    Nothing.

    What a show of disrespect for men who have given much of their time and lives for our country. These were men who were hand-picked by President Bush to be among the first 11 units deployed to Iraq because of their abilities to defend.

  • COLUMN: An old-timer’s critique of books and tobacco

    In this electronic day and age, we are inundated with highly technical critiques and comparisons of various electronic gadgets, such as smart phones, iPods, iPads and other works of wizardry. My beef is that they use language with which I am largely unfamiliar. Personally, I fear some of these technology writers may be suffering from a short circuit in their brain wiring.

    It was in central Nebraska in the year 1900. There hadn’t been a decent rain since May and it was nearly August. The crops were withering and it was looking like a bust year for the farmers in the county. As folks walked about in their daily routines they looked at the skies in hope of a cloud or two, but there was none to be seen.

    On Sunday, my family had the privilege of witnessing our friend Chris Hollinden complete the Ironman Triathlon in Louisville, Ky. We had never been to an Ironman competition, and thought it would be fun to watch, and we wanted to support Chris in his effort. Well, let me tell you, fun does not begin to describe the day. And as hard as I try to put our experience in words, I can assure you, I will not be able to do it justice.

  • Transplant Games call attention to need for more organ donors

    My son, Joe Gladish, received an invitation to join Team Indiana to compete in the Transplant Games of America back in early spring. Joe had a kidney transplant in March 2007.

    He joined the team and represented the state at the 2012 Transplant Games in Grand Rapids, Mich., July 28-31. He competed in the men’s 400-meter race and coed 400 relay and played on the three-on-three basketball team.

    Hello, Bev Minto. I wanted to let you know about my recent visit to Tell City to see my long-time friends Pat and Jerry Cooper this past May. I met them back in 1988 and, of course, always enjoyed their company.
