    On Monday, April 9, the Perry County Council held an emergency session to hear my petition to hire a part-time Deputy IV-D prosecutor.

    In 1975, Congress amended the Social Security Act, Title IV, Part D – hence the Title IV-D – to provide greater assistance to the states in establishing paternity and enforcing child-support orders.

    My credentials for expressing my opinions in this column, among other things, include nearly 50 years of sports medicine as a team physician in southern Indiana; being a school-board member for 15 years, both positions for the Tell City-Troy Township school system and being a member of the Indiana Football Hall of Fame.

    I have been a sports fan for more than 70 years. I have expressed my concerns often to the IHSAA, including all of the years my cousin, Blake Ress, was commissioner.

    While the nation’s job market is slowly warming up, the summer months might not be so hot for teen employment.

    The last 12 months saw the country’s unemployment rate drop from 9 percent to 8.3 percent, while Indiana’s unemployment rate dropped to 8.7 percent.

    As a kid, I remember two distinct smells emanating from Tell City’s downtown. The first was the smell of wood and lacquer from Tell City Chair Co. The second was at Tell City Feed and Grain, where the odor of grain and soybean mill wafted over the area.

Llynn Enmen, who has been a fantastic representative of the Red Cross for years, and I have had multiple discussions over the disaster preparedness in Perry County and we have decided that the best thing to do is to bring everyone together to have a discussion about where we want to go and how we are going to get there.
