  • What are the benefits of dormant oil sprays?

A healthy fruit crop from your favorite fruit tree can dramatically increase with some late winter attention. Pruning is key to healthy fruit trees and fruit production.

You can prune any time after the threat of harsh winter weather is over until just before the tree is in full bloom. Prune out any winter damage, branches that grow inward and crowded limbs.

Pessimism and politics; there may be no dirtier words in the English language – aside from dropping a four-letter profanity in front of your grandma during Christmas dinner. And the indignance of the current discussions that encompass the political domain, as it is reported in pop news sources, is probably at a new all-time low, considering the sham and shame of the hoax-media coda.

It was good to see Vice President and former Indiana Gov. Mike Pence taking part in the recent March for Life in Washington, D.C. He has been solidly pro-life his entire political career and while I did not agree with all of his decisions while governor, his steady support for life issues earned our appreciation.

U.S. presidents have addressed the crowd before, but by telephone. Pence was there in person, as was presidential adviser Kellyanne Conway.

Valentine’s Day was one of those holidays that gave sweaty palms to a 1970s third-grader. Back then, it was custom for every student to give each classmate a valentine. That might still be the practice. I haven’t bought a Valentine’s Day card in a long time. Maybe that’s why I’m single.

In Indiana, we are blessed with one of the finest statewide police forces in the nation. Our Indiana State Police officers take pride in protecting Hoosier lives and property, and we are proud of them.

Police officers are our hometown heroes in communities across the state, and they deserve recognition for putting their lives on the line every single day. Our finest take an oath to protect our families, and in turn, we must make sure they can support theirs.

Editor’s Note: This article is the first in a series on work ethics. It was written by Gary Greubel of Waupaca Foundry.

As the New Year arrives, it is common practice for everyone to establish commitments to improve themselves, their place of employment, or provide service to their community to enrich the lives of those around them.

  • Prayers and candles

Friday is the feast of St. Blaise, and I suspect a good many Perry Countians either had their throats blessed at church this past weekend or will this weekend.

I plan to attend church, so hopefully I am among the faithful lining up to have a pair of candles placed under my double chin while a priest offered a simple prayer.

  • Once again, violence is never the answer

    Jake Bethel

Violent actions cannot be tolerated, even when they occur against those who invoke ideas of hate. A video floating around social media sites shows well-known alt-right personality Richard Spencer being struck in the face with a dissenter’s fist during a video interview with a member of the press. As it turns out, this was the second time that day he was punched in the face, though there are only photos of that instance.
