Now that Schweizer fest has come and gone – and what a successful celebration it was – Perry Countians will turn their attention toward late-summer and fall activities. There are plenty of fun events coming up, old favorites as well as one-time celebrations.

As Tell City prepares itself for another week of Schweizer Fest, the list of activities and events to attend and participate in can be quite overwhelming. We are lucky to live in a community that honors its heritage yearly, and by doing so, offers us so many ways to celebrate throughout the week. An event that has quickly grown to be one of the largest of the Schweizer Fest sporting events is the road run.

I saw a friend of mine in a new vehicle last week, a sport-utility vehicle made by a luxury car brand that lists for more than $50,000. That’s a lot of money for a set of wheels.

Personally, I prefer a used car. My old Buick isn’t much to look at and garners a new nick or scrape every few months, but still gets me from point to point on time.

I am apolitical. I have never cast a straight ballot. I do not happen to believe all those running as a rooster or a donkey or an elephant or a whatever are all of the best choices, especially locally. Yet I consider Dean Boerste and Tom McCart very good friends of mine.
