Residents of Derby and nearby towns listen to a presentation Monday on a proposed community-owned store that would offer groceries, deli food items, fuel and beer. After a show of hands that followed unanimous support for the project, an exploratory committee will move ahead with recruiting board members and developing a list of potential co-op members.
Derby residents back co-op community store

DERBY – If the crowd on hand for this week’s community meeting is any indication of support for a proposed cooperative-style market, a community-owned store in Derby has a bright future.

About 100 people attending Mondays meeting were unanimously in favor of pursuing development of a store that would sell groceries, fuel and other essentials. Residents of Derby and other nearby towns filled the Smackwater Cove restaurant’s family room to hear ideas about how to return a store to the community.
