With the enthusiastic calls of ‘Sir, yes Sir!’ echoing through the trees mixed with a hearty dose of laughter, area children at last week’s Kenny Kellems Camp with a Cop had opportunities to have a lot of fun while learning about teamwork, discipline and the encouraging results of success. Opening on Wednesday at Glenn Wood Hills Camp in Derby, by day two, kids were mostly into the swing of the routine. Just after midday on Thursday, each of two groups, each composed of roughly two-dozen campers, were entrenched on the obstacle course. The two teams were each vying to put forth the best time. The focus there wasn’t on individuals, but on teammates helping each other to conquer the difficult impediments. Successfully mounting and overcoming the wall, Bernnan Fenwick gets encouragement from junior staffer Robert Rice as Officer Daniel Bickford looks on.
