  • First United Methodist welcomes new pastor

    Editor’s note: Earlier this month, the Rev. Sam Padgett joined First United Methodist Church in Tell City. Below is a column written by Pastor Sam.


    I was born and raised in Daviess County, Indiana. I graduated from North Daviess High School in 1997. Before entering the ministry in 2003, I married Melissa Wayman of Washington and we have four wonderful children, Leah, Blake, Grant and Matteson.

  • La Leche League to meet at new time, location

    FERDINAND – La Leche League provides mother-to-mother support and networking for breastfeeding, post-breastfeeding and pregnant women.

    La Leche League usually meets on the third Tuesday of the month. The next meeting will be Tuesday, July 14, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. EDT at 1085 W. 31st Street in Jasper.

  • Local youth participate in Electric Cooperative Youth Tour

    WASHINGTON, D.C. – Ryan Waninger of St. Meinrad, Brynnan Underhill of English and Luke Hilgenhold and Olivia Gogel both of Tell City represented Southern Indiana Power in the 2015 Electric Cooperative Youth Tour to Washington, D.C.

    The high school seniors-to-be gained a personal understanding of American history, their role as a citizen and insight to the important roles electric cooperatives play in their community. Indiana’s electric cooperatives have been providing this opportunity since 1960.

    Some of those in the area who attended the Friday evening meal and auction were Jeff and Peggy Eckert and Junior and Carol Flamion, all of St. Croix; Joe and Brenda Pund of rural Tell City; Ron and Rhonda Eaton of Three Corners and Jake and Sheila Borden of Doolittle Mills.

    BY MARY S. SOMMER, News Correspondent, Phone 719-8423 — It was a stormy week here in Perry County and several of our family member’s homes were hit by lightning and one of our friend’s also. I suppose it pays to unplug all of the electronics and T.V.’s when it hits close.

    We were gone Monday until Wednesday evening to Bloomington, Ill. Where we visited with Gloria Collins at the nursing home, but was told by her daughter, Darlene Leon, that she was having a bad day.

  • St. Augustine annual picnic set for July 26

    LEOPOLD – St. Augustine’s Catholic Church will have its annual picnic from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, July 26.

    Mass will be held at 10 a.m. There will be parking available for guests with disabilities. There will be quilts, a quilt raffle, silent auction, a country store, bingo, ice cream, games for young and old, baked goods and a grand raffle of 72 prizes totaling $3,000. 

    Family-style chicken dinners will be served by a ticket-number system in the air-conditioned dining room.
