  • Democrat golf scramble June 11

    SANTA CLAUS – The Perry County Democrat Central Committee will host the Terry Lock Memorial Democrat Golf Scramble 1 p.m. Monday, June 11, at Christmas Lake.

    Men will play from the white tees, women from the red tees, and golfers 70 and older from the senior tees. Entry fee is $65 per golfer and includes free drinks and snacks on the course and dinner at 5:30 p.m. at Mulzer Camp one mile west of Troy.

    Dinner tickets are available for nongolfers for $15.

  • Forestry workshop set for June 19

    ST. MEINRAD – A forestry management workshop will be held at the St. Meinrad Community Center beginning at 6:30 p.m. June 19.

    The meeting is being organized by the soil and water conservation districts and Purdue Extension Service in both Perry and Spencer counties.

    The program will focus on basic management techniques for forest land along with the economics and benefits of managing forest land correctly.

  • 10th Adventures with Nature field day is June 23

    TIPSAW – The 10th annual Adventures with Nature Field Day will be held at Tipsaw Lake Recreation Area June 23. The program has been organized by the Hoosier National Forest, Purdue Extension-Perry County, Perry County Soil and Water Conservation District and Spencer County Soil and Water Conservation District.

    The event will begin at 9 a.m. and will conclude at approximately 1 p.m.

    TELL CITY – Members of the Tell City High School Class of 2012 were recognized for academic excellence and awarded scholarships and other honors during the school’s annual honors ceremony May 13:

  • Perry Central H.S. seniors awarded scholarships

    LEOPOLD – Members of Perry Central High School's Class of 2012 were recognized with scholarships and other academic honors during a May 21 awards banquet. The following students were recognized:

    Ivan Bland: University of Southern Indiana Departmental Scholarship $4,000 per year; Ivy Tech Valedictorian Scholarship $1,500; ATTC Scholarship $1,000. Total $18,500.

    James Bluhm: Perry-Spencer Communications Scholarship, $500.

    Colt Brown: Vincennes University Scholar, full tuition.

  • Forest’s new district ranger begins duties today


    TELL CITY – A Forest Service employee with leadership roles working at several national forests will begin work today as the ranger for the Tell City and Brownstown districts of the Hoosier National Forest.

    Hoosier Forest Supervisor Melany Glossa announced that Chris Zimmer has been selected for the position. He fills a vacancy created when District Ranger Anne Carey accepted a position in Ohio.
