  • Hundreds of Santa’s helpers coming to Spencer County

    SANTA CLAUS – Santa is coming from the north, coming from the south and coming from the east and the west. But how can this be? Everyone knows that the real spirit of Santa Claus resides in America’s Christmas hometown of Santa Claus, Indiana and that is where upwards of 700 Santa helpers will head later this week, Thursday through Saturday, for the second annual Jim Yellig Santa Claus Workshop.

    The event is the largest gathering of its kind in North America.

  • Cirque du Soleil brings Quidam to Evansville April 26 through April 29

    EVANSVILLE – Cirque du Soleil will present “Quidam” for six performances from April 26 – 29 at the Ford Center in Evansville.
    Quidam, pronounced “key-dahm,” features several acrobatic acts such as aerial contortion in silk, skipping ropes, handbalancing, Duplex Trapeze, German Wheel, Spanish Web and more.
    Six musicians playing a wide variety of instruments such as the violin, cello, percussions, saxophone, electric and classical guitars and keyboard will perform original music.

  • Kayaking for beginners at Patoka

    BIRDSEYE – Have you ever wished you knew how to kayak or wanted to try it out before buying your own equipment? Join a Patoka Lake Interpretive Naturalist at the beach for a beginners kayaking lesson at 2 p.m. ET April 28. During this short lesson, participants will get to try their hands at a few different kayaks and paddles. Participants will learn what gear is needed and the best places to paddle on Patoka. All equipment including life jackets will be provided.

  • Chorus earns gold rating

    TELL CITY – The Tell City High School Chorus earned a gold rating at the Indiana State School Music Association’s organizational contest at Castle High School in Newburgh Saturday.

    Under the direction of Randy Roccia, the chorus performed “Peaceful River,” “Echoes of Kindness” and “Funiculi, Funicula!”

    “I am extremely proud of our progress and effort,” Roccia said. “The kids stepped up and executed a solid performance and all three judges reflected that in their scores.”

  • New bookmobile on schedule for May delivery

    TELL CITY – As summer draws near, the Perry County Public Library is preparing for the arrival of its new bookmobile and Library Director Larry Oathout gave library board members an update of the progress April 4 at the board’s regular meeting.

    “We’re coming along,” he said. “They still are promising a mid-May delivery. That will give us all of summer to get everything up to snuff before we go back to the schools.”

  • Foerster graduates OCU

    OAKLAND CITY – Molly Foerster of Evanston graduated Oakland City University with a degree in early childhood education in December 2011. A ceremony to honor her and other graduates will be held at 10 a.m. May 5 at the Johnson Center at Oakland City University.
    Foerster was a part of the school’s 2010 homecoming; a member of the national, co-educational music fraternity Davidsbuendler; a choir member; a member of the Student Government Association and SGA Senator of the year for 2008-09. She is the daughter of Darryl and Dianna Foerster of Evanston.
