  • Hall named to South all-stars

    INDIANAPOLIS—Perry Central’s T.J. Hall was chosen last week to play for the South team in next summer’s Indiana North-South football all-star game.

    The game, sponsored this year by Grange Insurance, will be played Friday, July 16, at 6 p.m. Perry County time at Indianapolis North Central.

    Hall, a two-way starter and kicker for the Commodores, was chosen as an inside linebacker.

  • Rogier, Hahus make All-PLAC

    LEOPOLD—Perry Central senior frontliners Ian Hahus and Alex Rogier were named to the All-PLAC boys basketball team in voting by conference coaches Thursday.

    Rogier was the third leading vote-getter on the 12-man team.

    He led the Commodores in scoring, rebounding and assists with 20.7 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game.

    He also led the team in free-throw shooting at 85.4 percent and he went to the line 198 times, breaking the school record of 191 attempts set by his coach, Matt Carter, in 1996-97 and tied by Aaron Carter in 2006-07.

  • Three PC girls make All-PLAC

    LEOPOLD—Three Perry Central players made the All-PLAC girls basketball team elected by conference coaches Thursday.

    Junior forward Deidra Dickerson made the 12-girl honor squad for the second year in a row. She was joined by senior forward-guard Hilarie Hahus and junior guard Lavina Schwartz.

    Perry Central finished second in the seven-team conference with a 4-1 record in conference games. Only conference champion Paoli, with four selections, had more girls make all-conference.

  • Cannelton leaders seek rate study

    CANNELTON - Cannelton's Board of Public Works and Safety approved at a regular meeting Monday a sewer-rate analysis to be performed by the London-Witte Group of Indianapolis, contingent on a $5,000 cost not increasing.

    Mayor Smokey Graves said the cost was provided in November, but the analysis had been put off until now. He thought a rate increase from Tell City, whose sewer plant accepts Cannelton sewage for treatment, will go into effect in May, he said, and "we'll look at the rate from Tell City to ensure it's reasonable."

  • 'Jenny Kissed Me' on stage

    TELL CITY - Tell City High School drama students will perform a comedy titled, "Jenny Kissed Me" Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the school's auditorium.

    The niece of a priest's housekeeper moves in with them, drama-club sponsor Ronnie Robinson explained Wednesday. The priest tries, but "is no good at figuring out how to help her," he said. "I think the audience will enjoy themselves with the characters and the story line. There's a little love story all the way through."

  • Saturday Electra service moved to community center

    With rain in the forecast, Saturday's memorial service recalling the 1960 Electra airline crash will be held in the Cannelton Community Center instead of Millstone. A schedule of events and the second installment of John Christie's account of the crash and efforts to honor its victims appear in the features area of this site.

  • Juveniles detained, face charges in vandalism

    TELL CITY - A police investigation into suspected gang-motivated vandalism in Tell City led to the arrests of five local juveniles last week.

    According to Patrolman Derrick Lawalin, lead investigator in the case, the Tell City Police Department received reports of graffiti spray-painted on the city's floodwall, as well as a park and on a local business' buildings.

    The teens belonged to what they said were gangs and allegedly affiliated themselves with The Bloods, Indisciples Gangsters Disciples, or IGD, and the Black Bandanna Click.
